Any long Covid people here who developed lung nodules?
As part of the clinical long Covid study I’ve been doing for a year, I had a clean chest X-ray a year ago. Monday they found a 9mm nodule in my right posterior lung as well as “minor air trapping.” I’ve never smoked.
They referred me to their (University of Illinois Chicago) Lung Nodule department. The said they have seen cases lung nodules with long Covid. My symptoms have been fatigue and brain fog. This was very unexpected and worrying, since my dad died of lung cancer two years ago and cancer also got his sister and mom.
Have you seen any reputable studies or articles on this combination? I’m finding quite a few on my own and would like to see someone else’s “homework” if they’ve already been looking at it.

@clover52 How are you now? What is the latest update?
@jodidido how are you now? What is the latest status? I heard this nodules are common after severe covid, and it will go after some months/years. You need to do breathing exercise.
Want to know your current status..
I developed a GGO (ground glass opacity) on my left lower lung after a mild case of Covid in 2020, and I was started on oxygen in 2021 after the COVID-19 shots because I developed hypoxia and multiple heart conditions.
Pulmonary followed me for annual CT scans and the GGO continued to grow. Last year, the GGO developed a semi-solid, 8 mm component that lit up on a PET scan. I had Thoracic Surgery in April to remove it. The pathology report showed adenocarcinoma stage 1a. I encourage everyone with lung nodules or GGOs to get regular surveillance scans.
I also had a liquid biopsy before and after lung surgery that showed I have circulating tumor cells ( CTC) in my blood. This test is not usually ordered and it is only covered by insurance for a limited number of diagnoses. I have cancer growing somewhere else in my body that is shedding tumor cells into the blood. I am working my doctors to try and figure out where.
Is it a forgone conclusion that lung nodules are cancerous in long covid patients ?
Has anyone had experience with ucsf ?
@donlaujr, a lung nodule can be cancerous. But most lung nodules aren't cancerous.
Lung nodules are small clumps of cells in the lungs. They're very common. Most lung nodules are scar tissue from past lung infections.
Lung nodules usually don't cause symptoms. They're often found by accident on a chest X-ray or CT scan done for some other reason. Read more from Mayo Clinic here https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/lung-cancer/expert-answers/lung-nodules/faq-20058445
Thanks for the reply, I have a follow up xray later this month to confirm the nodule sizes have not increased.
My goal is that the nodules go away by themselves, I also am following the clinical trials at ucsf using monoclonal antibodies to treat long covid
