Nebulizing hypertonic saline and hyaluronic acid

Posted by gigiv @gigiv, Jul 6 1:43pm

Does anyone have experience nebbing Hypertonic 7percent saline with .1 percent hyaluronic acid? I just found this article on the NIH website that picked my interest: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6050802/
I am just curious of the results/benefits any of you might have gotten from this combined therapy.
Best wishes of good health to all.

@gigiv I just read the study and it looks encouraging even though it was very small. Since hyaluronic acid in an inhalable suspension is probably difficult to find, you are probably going to need to work with your doctor. In your place, I would provide them copies of the report you cited and this one:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7601363/
Then ask to discuss a trial.
What I would NOT do is buy HA on-line and add it to my saline - too much risk of putting something unintended into already damaged lungs!
Do you have a pulmonologist who might be open to discussing this option with you?

@sueinmn I saw that Amazon Pharmacy sells vials of 7% saline mixed with hyaluronic acid. I remember reading here some members buy their 7% saline on Amazon, so I wondered if some of them experienced with the combo and which effects they noticed. Since it is a combo, of course it is no longer 7% saline, it is diluted. I brought it up to my pneumologist but he did not seem interested at the time. I will bring it up again. I have been taking on my own decision a supplement of liposomal high molecular weight HLA, which I have found quite helpful for my lungs with other benefits. I mentioned it to my ID doc who told me at the time: "take it if you want, it won't change anything". Well it did.
Wishes of great health to all!

That's great - glad to see it is from a well-respected company who has been selling for some time - I have used Naveh Pharma 7% saline and found them to be a good company in the past, Will you let us know if it helps you?

@sueinmn I have been nebulizing 3% saline and honestly I am doing quite well presently, so I am in no hurry to try anything else. But the fact that the nebulized hyaluronic acid breaks the (bacterial) film in BE definitely got my attention. I will make sure to discuss it more pointedly with my lung doctor when I see him. He has been insisting so far that I do not need more than 3% saline and he might be right. But for now, I am still supplementing with HLA (no nebulizing, just a pill) with great benefits.

Do you mind sharing which brand you take and how exactly do you feel it has been helpful for your lungs?

@irenea8 I buy my HLA on Amazon, not always the same brand, depending on what is available. . I always buy the liposomal form for better effectiveness. I take one capsule (about 120-150 mg) in the morning. My lungs feel normal when I take it, and my Sp02 is 97-98, so I like that. I believe also my CT scan showed dramatic improvement over a one year period. I cannot say HLA is the reason behind the improvement (I had a 3 month antifungal treatment that was highly effective and I also ramped up my cardio during that time and did other things as well), but obviously it did not hurt. I also take several capsules of Pterostilbene, also on Amazon, it has many benefits but in particular it is antimicrobial. I don't know if those supplements can interfere with any prescribed medication (my only med is my Advair and my 3%saline), so please make sure to research interactions etc before embarking on that journey. Best wishes of great health!-

so you do not notice anything specific from it other than lungs feel "normal"? Does it help bring up mucus more effectively? My lungs sure do not feel normal! But could always use help with clearance. Your Sp02 is quite good!

@irene8 The first day I took HLA, over a year ago, I felt it was transformative, my chest felt more supple, breathing was easier•. At the time, I was treated for an aspergillus infection for 3 months; I expelled a LOT of stuff during those 3 months, especially the first month. My SpO2 went from 93 to 98, I felt good, really good, cardio exercise was easier and easier. Nowadays I don't bring up a lot of mucus. I nebulize with 3% saline to clean my lungs (I move mucus then but I don't have a lot of mucus to expel) and it helps also in the way I feel. I will try and find that article again that explained HLA was very protective of the lungs against various kinds of lung diseases. I will look for it again and post it if I find it. May be nebulizing the 7% with hyaluronic acid would be more helpful in expelling mucus, I do not know, I have not tried it yet. Best wishes for great health.

I sent you a private message. Hard time finding the precise description of what you get on Amazon.
