Does anyone have experience with Prevagen helping with confusion?
Hello - my wife is in mid stage dementia and her confusion level has gotten worse lately. It does not appear related to a UTI. A home health care aid has mentioned that Prevagen has helped some of the dementia patients she has worked with. I am very skeptical of this drug given their creepy commercials and the fact that the FDA has not found any scientific basis for the drug to improve memory or any other dementia symptom. I thought it was worth polling this community for real world experiences.

I have also heard that Prevegen does not work BUT Prevegen marketing to those who are looking for help is successful. I agree the commercials are a bit creepy. I always change the channel or mute them.
Wow! I’ve only word recognition of this Prevagan, reading all of the above is the best thing I learned today.
I FOUND MY SPOUSE TAKEN MEDICATION FOR DEMENTIA HE WAS WORSE. MORE AGITATED. HE ALREADY HAS ANGER ISSUES AND WORSE NOW. GOING FOR THEREAPY WONT HELP. HE FORGETS WITHIN MINUTES WHAT YOU TALKED ABOUT. AND REPEATS OVER AND OVER ON ANYTHING HE ASKED ABOUT
IT'S VERY DRAINING. DOCTORS HERE IN MY TOWN ARE NOT GOOD. I LIVE NC GOING TO DUKE WAS BETTER, BUT STILLL HARD TO GET A DOCTOR THAT IS GOOD AT IT. ITS HARD TO TRAVEL TO BOSTON ITS ABOUT 1 HR DRIVE. PRIMARY CARE DOCTORS ARE NOT GOOD, YOU SEE SOMEONE DIFFERENT FOR APPT. NOBODY IS NOT ON THE SAME PAGE. SORRY TO SAY ITS JUST NOT GOOD.
I don't have dementia. I have never taken Prevegen. But, I take phosphatidyl serine and it seems to make me feel happy. Phosphatidyl serine is the main ingredient of all the memory supplements like Prevegen and much cheaper. You can buy it on Amazon.
@gloriajeanbuddy Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I’m sure you will find some support and encouragement in these discussions. You are certainly in a difficult situation. Do you live in a small town outside Boston? Many years ago, we lived in Arlington and I really know what driving into Boston is like. Does your town or city have an Area Agency on Aging? Or maybe senior services? They should be able to offer lots of suggestions on how best to handle your situation. Or help you find a support group just for you.
So far, what’s a good tip you’ve found in this discussion? Something that’s worth trying?
I WILL CHECK INTO SENIOR SERVICES. HOPEFULLY SUGGESTIONS MAY HELP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE
