Nebulizing with COVID
After avoiding COVID for 4 years, I finally tested positive yesterday. Can I continue to nebulizer with saline, given that you can’t clean tubing adequately even if you run compressor for 15 minutes after disconnecting neb and Aerobika.

Bummer about getting Covid after having avoided it successfully for so many years.
If it were, I, I’d definitely continue to nebulize and use the same tubing during the Covid episode. Once you test negative for Covid replace the tubing.
any idea how you finally caught it?
Thx for your reply. I am doing the Aerobika at this point.
Probably taking my granddaughter to library storytime and not wearing a mask. Learned my lesson.
I blow the tubing dry for a couple of minutes each time I use it. I change the tubing monthly, but if you’re really concerned, you could change it weekly.
When I got Covid in 2021, I nebulized three times a day and I think it made a difference.

Thanks for your input, Linda.
I also blow the tubing dry each time I neb and change it monthly. So far I’ve just been using the Aerobika by itself. I’m on Paxlovid and have had all boosters including one 3.5 months ago. So far, it seems like a milder case. Again, appreciate your input.
Happy to hear you’re doing well. When you think about it, having lung disease gives us lots of tools when we get a respiratory infection. We have a tool kit that most people don’t have.
I just tested positive for covid, after avoiding it for nearly 5 years. I have bronchiectasis and Mac.
Anyway, I quickly got very sick two days ago, on what was likely the first day of the illness and I got paxlovid the same day, although late in the day and I was only able to take the evening dose.
I started nebulizing 3 times a day yesterday and my cough is better today than it was yesterday. Congested sinuses and a very very sore throat are primary symptoms today and I’m taking Tylenol for that. I also started doing nasal rinses this morning and will try to do those at least twice a day.
I’m wondering if I’m doing everything I can for this and if anyone has suggestions and/or comments about what to watch out for in the next few days/week. I just read the chance of rebound is higher for people who have used paxlovid and have an underlying medical condition (which I think would include bronchiectasis and Mac) and wonder if anyone has experienced that?
Thanks for your comments,
I, too, got COVID this summer after successfully avoiding it. I have MAC and BE as well. I had taken every booster offered, but I let my guard down at a crowded event we’d taken our granddaughter to. I did not have any appetite, and I had significant fatigue. I took Paxlovid starting on the third day. My pulmonologist warned about rebound, and sure enough, after testing negative for 5 days, I came down with rebound on the 6th day. It was extremely mild. Best wishes.
I tested positive for Covid for the first time Sept 24, 3 days after returning home from my first international trip since Covid started. I did mask during travel or in crowded spots and was boosted in July before new vaccine.
You mentioned sinus congestion which is a chronic issue for me. I find saline rinses with NeilMed rinse bottles help. The silicone type can be sterilized, but the regular ones are more easily available.
I have bronchiectasis and mild asthma, took Paxlovid and tolerated it ok, but did get rebound. The initial round was high fevers, sore throat and sinus congestion. The rebound was fever (just 101) and a bad
nonproductive cough. I started testing again and finally got a negative on day 21. I still have a slightly elevated temp a few hours a day and am less active than normal, but can do what I need to.
Using hypertonic saline also seemed to sooth my cough for a bit. I don’t usu use it, but pulmonologist suggested I use it 2x: times/wk over winter.
My rebound started about the same disease day as those with severe Covid are admitted to ICU. I kept trying to be thankful I was home.
Also note..the doc was very careful to review my meds and stop a couple that interact with Paxlovid until 3 days after finish.
Good luck! Remember 80% don’t get rebound and I hope you’re one of them!
