Blood Thinners and NSAIDs

Posted by zacklucy @zacklucy, Jun 23 12:17pm

Those of us on blood thinners (Eliquis in my case) are told to avoid NSAIDs as they, too, have anticoagulant properties. But what about topical Diclofenac gel? Does it get distributed throughout the body like the oral NSAIDs, or does it stay in the region in which it was applied - outside of the knee in my case.

Thanks for any thoughts.

That settles it. Thank you.

I have Psoriatic Arthritis and not being able to take Meloxicam/NSAIDs occasionally is a real issue for me (and why I am looking at getting the Watchman procedure.) I asked my doctor is I could use Voltaren GEL occasionally; I was told that I could sparingly….to use a little on the impacted joint and not daily, and not to”bathe in it”! I use it very rarely; recently had a flare in one finger joint and used a very small amount twice a day for 2 days on that finger. It helped and swelling subsided. Again, Voltaren Gel is not for daily use…but for occasional use, per my doctor.
