Diagnosed as manic/depressive (bipolar), open to talk with others

Posted by liz223 @liz223, Jul 20, 2016

Hi everyone. I'm Liz. I'm 84years young. I was diagnosed as manic/depressive in my mid 20s and had major depression for two years. Was hospitalized and was given insulin shock therapy for three weeks. Have struggled with depression off and on since that time, but never to that extent again. At this present time I am doing well and am content, which I am thankful for. I'm here if I can help anyone and would like to. I believe the more we can help others, the better we become (emotionally, physically and spiritually).

Hi @liz223. I'm so happy to welcome you to Connect. I love that you come to us with such an open heart 🙂

I'm tagging @dawn_giacabazi and @rosemarya, two of our mentors who I know will want to welcome you as well.

I'd also suggest that you look at the following posts. It sounds like you could add a lot to the conversations taking place:

And, if you have experience with antidepressants, there is a robust conversation about medications happening here:

Happy to have you!

Thank you. Don't know if I can help, but I will check it out. My history regarding antidepressants isn't too good for others. 🙂 I have managed primarily on my own without meds other than mild Paxil.

@liz223, Welcome to our discussions! I admire your openness and willingness to reach out and help others. Although, our (you and me) backgrounds are different, I believe we share the desire to help others. A listening ear, and understanding from someone who has 'been there' can be very and encouraging. I like how you said, "I'm here if I can help anyone and would like to. I believe the more we can help others, the better we become (emotionally, physically and spiritually)." It sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for: I hope you continue to do well. I encourage you to look at some other discussion threads on Connect, and join the discussion.
Rosemary
