Parkinson’s and chemotherapy

I am a 68-year-old woman and was diagnosed with PD in 2021. I have right hand tremors and I’m not on any meds. Recently (April 2023) I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Based on test results, my oncologist is recommending chemotherapy. Could anyone with PD share their experience with chemotherapy?

I do t think you can say you were given misinformation because chemo can affect each person differently. Anytime a person gets sick with an infection or cancer the poor Parkinson’s doesn’t know what to do so it goes haywire. At least that’s what I was told by a neurologist and it seemed to be true in our case. Sorry she is going through all this. Not fun but you have to look at the whole picture if you don’t do the chemo. I know with our bone marrow cancer we had to do the chemo to get to be able to do the transplant which is the only cure. So we stuck with it and all the craziness that went with it. Hand in there. 🙏

We had to stop chemo after 3rd treatment. She had zero quality of life.
PD was out of control!

So sorry to hear that, @howardk. Is she beginning to feel better now that the chemo has stopped?

Will you post updates and let us know how both of you are doing?

Almost 4 months after stopping chemo she is still a mess and not really improved

I'm sorry to hear that, @howardk. What symptoms are the most troublesome for her right now?

Her PD has increased tenfold on all accounts

Totally fatigued and exhausted
Urination every 15 minutes

Those are troublesome symptoms, @howardk. Frequent urination is common with people who have PD and can be very tiring as well. Has your wife ever been prescribed meds to help with the frequent urination?

How is her walking, gait and balance doing?
