Chronic pain and medical marijuana

Posted by ladyjane85 @ladyjane85, Jul 16, 2016

A nurse friend tried me on marijuana oil smoked in an electronic pen since nothing works with my pain under everything pain management has tried. I did not respond - can one be immune to it as I am with all procedures on my back and all pain relievers

Well folks, My bottle of CBD came in and I am having a world of problems take it. It says to take one full dropper under the tongue , hold for 60 to 90 seconds, I tried doing that and nearly threw up. The taste is terrible. I tried it in food but that wasn't much better, soooo today I tried something different. Now don't laugh, I took a regular cig. and saturated it with the oil and dried it in the microwave then smoked it. Okay I know that sound crazy but I was just trying to get it in my body, anyway I could. It did help my pain but not as well as I hoped for. and it didn't last long , only about 20 minutes to a half hour. When I ordered this CBD I had such high hopes that it would help my pain. I am disappointed in it. Am I doing something wrong ? Any suggestions. I really need help. Thanks in advance..Jeanie

I don't know if there is any way of knowing just what you're getting. This would be why the industry should be regulated, and they need to do some intensive study. What if it really only works synergistically with THC? What if the CBD extracted from industrial hemp isn't absorbed well because it's taken from stem and not flower? What if the concentration is rather weak? So many questions could be answered with more research!

This isn't exact science that I'm using but I did some reading and it kind of made me wonder how little you may be getting.
With the Canadian licenced dispencery CBD oil, patients are dosing just a few drops of oil. I know a lot of pain patients are saying they prefer the oil, and that most of those patients have lots of pain, but their pain is managed with just a few drops. I would be curious to know just how many droppers of the OTC oil would it
take for them to get equivilent CBD content? A dropper sounds like an awful lot.

Thank you for your reply, I have stopped using the CBD altogether. I just don't trust it. I used it the first time and I didn't notice much of a change in my pain level but I did notice a general malaise feeling. I tried it again and shortly after I became sick, I was vomiting, a fever of 102 F which tylenol took care of ,and my IBS was out of control. I went to the hospital ER and other than the usual pain and IBS symptoms, the only thing they found was low sodium caused by dehydration. yet I felt really sick. They gave me percocet for pain and Zofran for nausea and sent me home. I am much better now and am back to work after missing 3 days. I doubt that the CBD had much to do with my getting sick but it does seem strange that every time I took it I felt bad afterward. Anyway between the taste and the feeling of illness after taking it, just made me rethink the whole thing. I do not feel comfortable about anyone taking CBD in the US. you were absolutely right, about the dosage and I feel it needs to be better monitored and researched. Thanks again for your reply. I'm new here but saw your post and thought I'd give you a suggestion to try. I have tried medical marijuana for pain and found it did not help. In fact sometimes it actually seemed to accentuate the pain. I used a vaporizer. I will note that it did help with cramps due to IBS with constipation I developed from pain medication though so I do use it sometimes.

BUT...I did find something that does help. It's called Kush Cream. You can Google or Bing it and it will show you the website where you can purchase it on line. A friend of mine knows the woman who owns and makes the creams. She has a wonderful reputation and has won several awards. Again..it's all on her website. I had TERRIBLE itching along my spine which spread out all over my back. I believe it's from nerve damage from pinched nerves. I had tried everything including a prescription from my doctor. Nothing helped. It was driving me crazy. I buy the Kush Cream Organic Perma Frost and apply it to my back twice a day with a back lotion applicator with an extended handle I purchased on Amazon. Kush helps SO much. It also helps with pain. It's all natural organic ingredients. The Perma Frost contains menthol crystals which gives a wonderful warming sensation. It's a formula with an emu oil base infused with cannabis and other natural herbs, etc. The website has a list of ingredients. All I can say is, it REALLY helps me a LOT. You can check out information about Emu Oil on line too. According to what I've read Emu Oil sinks into your skin below the first layer so it delivers the other ingredients that help with pain and other issues. I believe the Mayo Clinic website has info on Emu Oil as well as WebMD and Drugs.com.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Fortunately for me, Minnesota legalized "Medical" Cannabis. Yesterday I was finally able to pick up my first supply, and I am amazed at the amount of pain relief I am feeling. It took just minutes for the effect to be noticed and in about 20 minutes I was pretty much pain free. My legs/feet have virtually no pain. It is replaced by only the numbness that has always been in the background. I have noted no side effects at all. Over the next days I will try weaning myself off of the "conventional" pain meds I take and see what's left. I know I still have peripheral Neuropathy, and will always have it, but being only 70 years old, and after suffering for 10 years I had to try everything.

You have no idea how much this has meant to me to finally be mostly pain free.

Has anyone else tried or contemplated using Medical Cannabis?

I am from Minnesota, and have Trigeminal nerve pain as well as many back issues relating to both nerve and muscle. Nothing seems to work, and I had considered trying medical marijuana, but a bit apprehensive that I would feel "out of it". I would also like to take as little drugs as possible, and currently take gabapentin, baclofen, and at times, Vicodin.
Would you mind sharing what medical facility you go to? My clinic is not into using this, but it seems safer to me than all the drugs I take that don't work!

To @medic7054 Hi, I wanted to ask if the medical form of marijuana that you
have taken is extremely expensive? FL does not have legalized marijuana
yet. I was given the chance to try it in a vapor cigarette since I have
trouble with pain killers, either I do not respond to them or have horrible
reactions, I had no reaction to that form of marijuana. From what I have
read medical marijuana is too expensive for the average person.
@ladyjane85
I just tried the oil (smoked) THC from marijuana 3 diff x's, and more than
a male would use - no reaction at all.
Am being told of sublingual CBD for pain - do not know price. Then told of
testing for diff meds since either I react badly of they do not help at
all. This is called pharmacogenetic testing or PBx or monecular profiling -
will have to talk to my pain management dr. ladyjane85
