Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

I'll give you a short background so you know where I'm coming from. I have a spinal cord injury from a car accident 43 years ago. I am from the paralyzed from the knees down and I wear bi-lateral AFOs. It's an unusual form of paralysis where I can still walk (very badly) with 1 or 2 canes.
I only have deep response in both feet and calves, meaning I feel nothing until I reach the intense pain threshold. It then comes on like a lightening bolt with practically no warning. That said I have a strong vested interest in comfortable shoes. Over the years I've tried dozens of different types of shoes. I once paid $900 for custom made shoes built on castings of my feet.
No matter how comfortable the shoes felt at first, it would get to a point where they were unwearable because of the pain they caused. On an internet search I stumbled on "Fitville" an online company that sells shoes. On their website they explained how they specialize in wide shoes with very large toe boxes. Within 30 seconds I found 1/2 dozen different shoes that at least on paper were perfect for me and no shoe was more than $79. I ordered two pairs, one pair of recovery sandals and one more complete shoe. When the shoes came I couldn't believe how comfortable they were and I'm year still wearing them a year later. The recovery sandals are so comfortable, I ordered three more pairs, just in case they decide to discontinue them. The best part is they cost $59 a pair. Fitville is only online and I pretty sure the shoes are made in China. The bottom line is, these shoes changed my life...........something as simple as a comfortable shoe.

Just reporting back. I'm having pretty good luck with these new Hoka shoes called the "Gaviota 5". It's a very stable shoe (wide base) and pretty cushiony. I formerly wore a New Balance running/walking shoe with pretty good results. I'd recommend this particular Hoka brand for comfort and especially if you have any issues with balance. They're almost more than I need in that department.

PS> I also use them with inserts/arch supports given to me by my foot doctor. That also helps.

I agree. I have not found any shoes that are comfortable for my neuropathy. I have a couple of pair of Reef flip flops that I wear, but they really aren't that comfortable. At the end of the day, I am really suffering. I would like to find a decent pair of shoes that I can wear.

I just purchased the Brooks Glycerin 20 shoe and really find them helpful in making my foot feel less prickly o sensitive while walking. I'll let you know how they stand up in a couple of months.
