Y-90 liver cancer treatment: What's your experience?

Posted by mudshark @mudshark, Dec 8, 2019

I recently was treated with y-90 on a tumor in my liver. I am interested in knowing of others that have had experiences good, or bad, and of long term results. I have had prior resection of the liver to remove a tumor but a new tumor surfaced in a different section. I am hoping the y-90 will prove to be a more permanent solution. Thanks

I did not have a lot of bad side effects. Mostly a pain in my side, and fatigue. Both of which were pretty much what they told me would be possible. Today is 10 days after the procedure and I am beginning to feel pretty good.

Not sure if my response is too late to assist you. But I had the Y90 procedure done in November 2023 for a primary tumor in my liver. The treatment process was arduous but the effects of the treatment have been good. Thank God I continue to have necrosis in the tumor that was treated. God bless.

Have faith in the Y90. I've only heard good about it and it surely worked for me.

It has been a good effective treatment (Y90) for me since November 2023.

Hi Colleen...I was glad to hear that someone who has had y99 treatment had limited side effects. I will receive my y99 treatment next week for a 3.5cm unresectable HCC due to location and while I have evidence of Cirrhosis, all blood work is normal including AFP. No symptoms. Hoping that the y99 can shrink the tumor and future resection or transplantation will be possible. I am a otherwise very healthy 70 year old. Interested in hearing from others that have had y99 treatment and their progress toward a resolution or transplantation. Thanks

Y90 has proven to be a very effective treatment for me against a primary tumor in my liver. I am experiencing necrosis (and shrinkage) of the tumor since having the treatment in November 2023. I recommend it highly if possible.

@revjohnson, your experience is helpful for people about to receive Y90 treatment. Thank you.

What do you wish you had known but didn't before starting treatment? In other words, was there something you might have been better prepared for?

I can't think of anything other than it was an arduous and long day. I checked into the hospital at about 8 am and was discharged about 5 pm. The treatment itself is about 45 minutes or so. The preparation time is lengthy on day of procedure.

Is it painful

@spolaki, I believe you're asking if Y90 treatment is painful. I'm tagging @revjohnson @digibson @alfonso22 @pfitz904 @phillydawg to share their experiences.

@spolaki, is Y-90 therapy, also known as selective internal radiation therapy or SIRT, an option for you?

Y90 treatment for radiation is not painful I would said level 5 since where the treatment is done but after that I just felt a minor burning sensation we all have different symptoms but if you are getting Y90 for chemotherapy that is a different yes same procedure just chemotherapy rather than the radiation beads that for me was very painful I should know since they keep you in the hospital after that they didn’t keep me for my Y90 radiation I went @ 11 am was done by 4 pm only pain where the catheter was done hopes this help
