Tinnitus
Has anyone found anything that helps with tinnitus in long covid? Tinnitis started this past week. I’ve found very limited knowledge in the medical resources where I live on any long covid issues. High pitched sound in ears/head.

I have seen so many doctors, specialists and therapists over two years that I have lost count. I have been to hundreds of appointments. Two or three appointments each week over a couple years adds up! My condition continues to worsen.
I now go to an integrated medical group that is a little easier, but still doesn’t include everything. They do try to help you coordinate care. Unfortunately nothing that has been tried has worked for me.
I had a three week bout with Covid February 2022. I seemed recovered, and then all my symptoms started cropping up. Now I have hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis. My vision is blurry and I am dizzy. Plus a host of digestive issues.
I now believe if my body doesn’t figure this out, there is no help for me.
I still see my Primary doctor, but I’m going to fewer appointments now because they have no answers.
Hi, I haven’t heard of the Lanier test, but I will check it out. I’ve asked for a referral to a specialist for inner ear disease. It seems that some ENTs specialize in ears, nose OR throat…I’ll report back 🙏
PS: I have hyperacusis also 😎
I will do my best to answer everyone's questions because I know what some of you are going through
-------------------------------
1. Do you put it in your ears?
Yes you apply drops to your ears
-------------------------------
2. Is there a another way to administer it? (taken from web MD)
"Put a cotton plug soaked with the solution in the affected ear(s). You may put the cotton plug in your ear first and then apply the ear drops onto the cotton plug. Keep the plug moist by adding 3 to 5 drops of the medication as directed by your doctor, usually every 4 to 6 hours."
-------------------------------
3. Where can i buy it
It is readily available in GCC countries (did not order online)
-------------------------------
4. Are the pills the same? Did you try them?
I did a quick search and it seems there is a brand(s) overlap, the branding of the pills is 100% different and i am also guessing the composition as well. I did not know there are pills and i did not try them either.
------------------------------
5. Which otocalm brand/version did you use?
I did not know this, but a quick search yields different otocalm droplets in the market & none look like the one I use. I will head home and take a picture because i cannot remember the packaging right now
-------------------------------
6. What are your symptoms
Cov-19 virus destroyed my vestibular system upon other neurological functions. I am emotionally crushed because the vestibular injury from covid has resulted in Oscillopsia as well. Tinnitus is only a subset of the basket of issues I am going through.
-------------------------------
7. How do you feel
This is an extremely broad question because like I said, I have a multitude of symptoms, if I restrict my feedback to tinnitus only, I got better after the 6th month when I used the ointment, whether it was a timing coincidence or not, I cannot confirm but I felt the effectiveness within 48 hours. I will not forget that moment.
-------------------------------
8. What kind of tinnitus were you experiencing?
I used to write down every single moment i get a tinnitus attack in hopes doctors could map something out, but like many of you, the medical field around this is a total failure from my experience. I get loud ringing attacks many times per day, sometimes left, sometimes right and sometimes together. The ringing lasts from 5 seconds all the way to 30 seconds and gradually the volume decreases. I took cortisone injections as explained in my prior post but that did not seem to do anything for the tinnitus.
-------------------------------
9. How old are you, and how would you describe your state of health BEFORE covid?
Young healthy male & athletic with no major illnesses
-------------------------------
10. After Covid?
My whole body is compromised, my attack happened 11 months ago and i can only say I am 10% better overall with fluctuations (some symptoms are still at 0% and some at max 20%)
hope this helps
Lenire is not a test. It is a therapy. You wear a head set with sound, and an appliance that goes in your mouth that sends a frequency to your tongue. I believe it is a one hour therapy session each day. I’m not sure, but I think at this point you must buy the system, but some doctors might have it available to patients without purchase.
It is fairly new and not widely available.
I asked my Audiologist to research more for me, but he hasn’t gotten back to me.
My tinnitus is constant, also hyperacusis is constant.
I get some relief from a low dose of Klonopin. I try to use it sparingly because it slows the bowel, which is already another major issue for me.
I believe I also have oscillopsia though the various eye doctors I have seen have not diagnosed. My vision is jumpy, foggy and I have extreme light sensitivity.
It seems to me that the product you use may not be available in the United States.
Also for me, my life is so altered and diminished.
Good luck to you.
I am seeing a very qualified chiropractor that has successfully treated my tinnitus. He uses a small torque tool behind the ear and neck and I have achieved multiple quiet days with no ringing. He also adjusts the discs in my upper spine/neck. Ringing still occurs occasionally but I am continuing the torque treatment and with time I hope it alleviates permanently. I feel like it’s a miracle!
I think this can go either way. I also went to a chiropractor who used the metal appliances. I do not remember what that technique is called, as it was about a year ago.
She put the appliance inside my ears and the “thump” of the treatment actually made my ear ringing worse. I left the office feeling much worse than when I arrived.
I truly feel like a guinea pig with all the treatments I have tried.
I’m glad this treatment worked for you.
Oh gosh, it is not supposed to go inside the ear!!That would hurt!! It’s behind the ear and neck below the ear.
My chiropractor has people coming from out of state for his help.
The torque instrument he uses wouldn’t even fit inside my ear, although it is a small tool.
Sorry that happened. Maybe look for a more qualified chiropractor. I live in Charleston, SC
Good luck!
This chiropractic office has an excellent reputation and I waited weeks to even get an appointment. Unfortunately, I think it’s hard to know who is “qualified”. This office was recommended to me by multiple people.
I have also seen an upper cervical chiropractor that uses instruments, also very highly recommended. Results were not negative, but just didn’t work for me.
I have had help from chiropractic for lower back pain in the past, but for what I’m experiencing now, chiropractic has not been an answer for me.
I’m so glad you got some relief.
