It’s been three weeks now and I’ve been to dentist and had a deep cleaning. I am wAiting for my appointment with GI unless there is a cancellation it’s on Aug 29th. I call my Mayo Clinic rheumatologist and he said he was sorry I would have to see my GI get help. I’m having the same awful taste nothing is helping it sometimes burning in my mouth and throat. Eating very small meals but between dryness and awful taste very difficult. Drinking orgain drinks for mute nutrition but going very quickly through my system and ileostomy. Hard to maintain weight and strength. Need to find more liguid drinks to maintain weight and be able to swallow. So frustrating!
I too have a horrible taste in my mouth and the burning is not only in my mouth but us now on my lips. I have lost over 25 pounds in one month and none of my doctors can help me. Now I’m at the point where I’m trying to drink plant base drinks but I can barely keep them down and sores are increasing

I was drawn to this thread, as I have had constant bitter taste since last September (2023). Right after it started, I was diagnosed by ENT with Post Covid Syndrome also having smell/taste disorder. After having neurological evaluation, no answers. Returning to ENT (Duke).
What has been your experience? I don’t have burning mouth now, but did have burning throat a couple times months ago. I don’t know what caused it. Suspected silent reflux, but don’t know for sure. I have also had burning elsewhere on my body. That has mainly subsided. I discovered there is a syndrome of burning sensations. I don’t know much about it. I’ve focused mainly on my constant bitter taste, but I will say that I’ve noticed a slight improvement over the last couple of days! I am cautiously optimistic.
I hope to see more from those who have the bitter taste. It’s rather rare.

I have had the bitter taste and periodic mouth/tongue burning and extreme dry mouth.
All seem to be a bit better now.
At it’s worst, during the day I always had mints or gum to camouflage the bad taste. At night I used Xylimelt, which was very helpful in keeping my mouth more moist for 7 hours or so.
Sometimes small things do make a difference.
Still struggling with many long Covid issues, but these are pretty much resolved.
No I have not researched Burning Mouth Syndrome

I totally understand I’m drinking plant based drinks also to try to maintain weight … so sorry. 😢
Is BMS an autoimmune disorder
@clregan2528 You’ve been asking about burning mouth syndrome. Here us Mayo Clinic’s information about it:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/burning-mouth-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20350911
On Mayo Clinic Connect, we do consider it an autoimmune disease. Are you concerned that you may have BMS? Do you have any autoimmune diseases?

For me I think it was caused by Silent Reflux which caused nerve damage to my vagus nerve. I was diagnosed by a stomatologist at UCSF..
Very interesting. That would make sense for me. I’m reading this.
