biventricular pacemaker

Posted by c588 @c588, Nov 7, 2022

I am in AFib and also have heart failure due to an enlarged right atrium. My dr has recommended a biventricular pacemaker along with a SA node ablation. I have a low ejection fraction. Your experience? Did it help your fatigue and arrhythmia?

Hi c588
Did anyone reply to you? I have a biventricular pacemaker also called a Cardiac Resynchronization Device (CRT). Mine is the "deluxe" 🥴 because it also has a defibrillator. I received it in September, 2022. My diagnosis is Dilated Cardiomyopathy with LBBB which has resulted in Stage 4 heart failure. My EF rate at time of implantationnwas 19%. I do not have AFib but I do have SVT.
To answer your question - and you may well know this already - the device probably will help your EF. Six months after implantation, my EF had improved dramatically to over 50%. (However, as I understand it, there are a number of folks who do not benefit from the device.) Because of that improvement, I have returned to my previous energy levels. The SVTs, on the other hand, seem to have a life of their and continue on from time to time. I am, however, asymptomatic.
Of course, I had no idea whether I would be one of those people it didn't help but I was also told if I didn't get one, I would most likely approximately 18 to 24 months to live. Nothing like having a observation like that tossed your way to help you focus.😉 In truth, my choices were very few and so, I chose to receive the device.
I just joined this group a short while ago and am still trying to navigate the site. (I find it difficult to locate remarks/queries about pacemakers of any type in this group.) Otherwise, I would have responded to your question/concern much sooner.
Anyway,if you received a biventricular device, welcome to the club. Hope things are going reasonably well for you.
Best wishes.
