Getting off lorazepam (Ativan). What was your taper schedule?
Hi. I know it may sound like I'm questioning my doctors decision, but it's not that. Long story short I've been on 0.5 ativan for 1 year. During this year I've also taken 0.5 in the morning 2 times and tapered down 2 times also.
Now I've started tapering the 0.5 i was taking in the evening (for 1 year), following my doctors tapering schedule. It consists of skipping 1 day 6 times(that means 1 day i take it, 1 day i don't for 6 times). Then i move to skipping it for 2 days x 6 times and so on.
I'm wondering if it's not to fast? What should i expect? If anyone has been in a similar situation.
Thank you all.

Liquid Benzo prescriptions are very inexpensive. I paid $4.00 for a month supply of liquid Valium. I stand by what I said about a taper for a person that took Benzos for eight days. You are obviously a BenzoBuddies person. You all want to carry on about Benzos for years and whine. You have a lot of nerve coming to a normal and informative site and calling me “ignorant”. We don’t have much drama here, its pretty peaceful, hoping the moderators will
keep it this way. In all the years I’ve used this site I’ve never seen a commenter call another person ignorant . . Not once. I hope you’re removed from this site.
Ok have looked at thee ashton manual
My problem is no doctor is giving me these pills it is a street connection
However i am in the process of finding a psychiatrist to assist
Thoughts??

I agree that you need to talk to your PCP or psychiatrist or whomever is prescribing it. The slower taper the better. It will feel rough, but try to just stay present and try to not go into the future with your mind thinking about the next time you are going to take one. If you can go down by .5 a couple of weeks at a time, it will be better. Do not stop cold turkey. Hang in there and keep reaching out. I have been where you are.
Thanks and will do
I took 4 mg for only a week 4 mg a day took sleeping pill to manage withdrawal and should have taken following 100 mg seroquel or less 1 mg Xanax try that look at seroquel
I’m new to this website so I really don’t know what I’m doing so please help I have been on Ativan for about Six months and on Xanax for about six months, I was taking 1 mg Ativan a day I told my doctor I want to get off of this because it messing with my cognitive and I think I’m having side effects from it. He put me on 0.5 in the morning and 0.5 at night as needed he did not give me really instructions and how to slowly come off of the Ativan. so I cut about 25% off and for the last three days it’s been really rough. Today’s a little better and I’m on gabapentin 100 mg at two and 100 mg at night. It does help me sleep at night can help with your suggestions.
You are doing well sleeping and were not on big dose funny it is affecting cognitive functions get tested to be sure or if you have no. Benefit from it then your taper is a good guess
You’re going to have to taper the gabapentin at some point. It will cause dependency issues also. The only think I can suggest is to speak to your doctor about switching to Valium and tapering off. It shouldn’t be bad as you were on a low dose for a relatively short amount time. The folks on high doses for years have the hardest time getting off these meds.
