Timing of Reclast Infusion after your last Evenity Injection.

Posted by rhondat23 @rhondat23, Apr 28 8:12pm

My doctor said I would not receive a DEXA Scan or start Reclast Infusions for one year from my last Evenity Injection. Can you please share what each of your doctors are advising? Thank you!

@kristie2

My endo said that I will start Reclast after one month drug break . It bothers me that these docs don’t have the same thought process .

@kristie2 a one month drug break means two months from the last injection, so maybe we are talking about the same thing! Have you asked if you can use CTX markers for the timing of this transition to Reclast?

I am actually getting my markers done this week and hopefully again before the start of reclast .
I have 3 more Evenity injections to go.

@sando I am going to wait two or three months from the time of the last injections. As @normahorn wrote, Evenity lasts at least 65 days in our bodies (with kidney issues, maybe more). And that may be a separate issue from the mineralization my doctor mentioned. My doctor said "there is no rush."

Wow you wonder why they didn’t give the injections every other month!
Why would we want it to build up like that….how did you get such an informed Dr! Would he have a study or a website article so I and others could show our docs? Thanks for this info…( do many get liver problems just doing the regular 12 months?

@sando there were actually studies on giving Evenity less frequently. The ideal dose was found to be monthly. Half life is only 12.8 days so at 26 days 1/4 is left, 39 days 1/8 is left and so on.

The idea is to get to a "steady state" of a level of the medication in your system, and I believe it takes 3 months to get to that. (Since I did inconsistent dosing I never reached that, at least at the prescribed level).

Oh so for those without liver issues or other symptoms…the studies show every month to be ideal…so when we stop Evenity..and switch to say…reclast ..are there studies that show wait 2 months? Reclast is probably way stronger…right?

Reclast is stronger yes. I am getting different answers on when to go on Reclast after Evenity. Using the CTX may help but mineralization may be a separate reason to wait 2 months. I don't think anyone knows. Evenity is so new.

We are insecure enough…it’s sad, maybe intolerable that we don’t have some experts to help us. No studies?

I was told no studies yet. Evenity has not been on the market long enough. I don't think the answer will be written in stone anyway. It makes sense to use CTX and/or wait two months after the last shots. I might even wait three. Talk with your doctor about whether the CTX should be a little higher before doing the follow-up med.

Thanks for the CTX idea —by the way…what is it? Does everyone need this test or only those with kidney problems?

@susanfalcon52 there seems to be a difference of opinion on this. I don't feel I will lose anything significant if I wait a month too long but from what my doc said, I don't want to do it too early either, in case that could interfere with mineralization (and probably not 100% interference, who knows). Keith McCormick writes about this dilemma in "Great Bones."

Can you just schedule it for July as a compromise?

windyshores,
Yes. I had actually meant to say July. I’m going to call the doctor’s office today and reschedule. One month vacation sounds great.
