Anyone taking 5 mg Tamoxifen: Do you have side effects with 5 mg?

Hi
Just wondering if anyone on here takes 5 mg of tamoxifen and if so do you have side effects with 5 mg. That's what my oncologist said he will put me on once I'm done on my treatment

Hi
Oh that is all suspect I think don't you. I don't know I don't think I'm going to take this medication I'm going to stop it right now because I've only been on it for a week and wait to see my doctor and have a conversation regarding my risk and then I will decide if I'm going to take it I just can't cope with these headaches right now and the exhaustion God I'm still exhausted from radiation. Good luck with your decision

I agree, all suspect. Thank you and best of luck to you on your decision. I hope your headaches subside.

Hi
I stopped it. With my medical history too many risks I don't understand why doctors don't delve into your past history a lot better so we'll see I have a conversation with him on May 16th but I let him know I'm not taking it

Hi
Oh he told me it's totally up to me I mean in a perfect world I would like to take it but it's not a perfect world and I want quality of life

I'm with you. I would like to take it for the benefits but in my case (and it sounds like yours, too), it's risky and in many ways it will decrease quality of life. If I understand correctly, there haven't been any recent studies on Tamoxifen/risks but I could be wrong. I've had other types of cancer and some days you just get tired of "googling" and doing research on cancer. 😉

Hi
Yes I feel like I spend three quarters of my day Googling since I got this breast cancer and it's getting to be too much. There has to be a point where I just accept that I can't take any of the drugs and live my life but there's that name voice that won't shut up in my head

Hi
I would not get too worried about forgetting things stress does a lot to people. I have a stomach medication I have been on for years so I haven't had any issues with my stomach. As far as the getting up a lot at night I think that's a normal part of aging but my doctor just put me on vagifem. It is helping you can also try vaginal moisturizers I think replens is one. As we age we lose estrogen and then to have an estrogen blocker It does cause more issues with going to the washroom Maybe talk to your doctor about it

I went for my annual checkup this past Monday, April 22 My lab work showed BUN and Creatinine elevated along with a low filtration rate and elevated A1c This is an indication of kidney function They have always been normal I’m on Tamoxifen 5 mg daily thats all I can tolerate for the past several months I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma and had a partial mastectomy no radiation in February 2023
Now I’m wondering on top of all the side effects of this drug if I’m going to end up a diabetic too The kidney's help filter drugs
Has anyone on Tamoxifen had these issues I’m 82
Thanks for any input

Hi
If you can tolerate 5 mg you're amazing but I decided for my sanity and health I'm not taking that medication. I have done a lot of research on it.

Thank you I don’t know how women tolerate this drug so long I was so relieved when I found information about changing a different manufacture and I decreased the dose myself Side effects were more tolerable But I have been more tired lately and the constant trips at night, to the bathroom to urinate hasn’t slowed down I think it’s the kidneys working overtime to get rid of this drug in our bodies My lab work has always been good until this time after being on drug Sometimes A1c a little high from diet and being lazy
I sure don’t want kidney failure from a toxic drug to prevent reoccurrence maybe but possibly diabetes or kidney failure 😊
