What songs of resilience inspire you?
I have a friend who is fighting cancer. It’s serious. His friends, family and colleagues are praying and sending well wishes his way, but I want to do more. I’m a music person. I would like to send him a link for a song that offers inspiration. Can anyone share what has brought them solace and perhaps put a smile on your face? My friend, his wife, sister and I attended a Paul McCartney concert a few years ago. I’m thinking a Beatles tune might be in order. Any genre of music would work though. Thanks.

I realize that spirituality and faith are personal things and that not everyone might appreciate something faith based. Especially, when facing cancer. I think I’d be angry. However, I think my friend would like this song. It used to be quite popular. It can be interpreted in many different ways. I’m providing this link that shows the lyrics, which I find uplifting for myself. I’ve listened to it a lot when struggling with my Type I diabetes. In case the link doesn’t work, the song is You Say.

I just listened to the song. I love it! Aside from the comforting words, her voice and the music are both soothing. Thanks for sharing. Your friend is lucky to have you. Prayers for your health as well.
"I will survive. " Gloria Gaynor
I wasn't quite recovered completely from cancer #1 (esophageal, esophagectomy etc) when cancer #2 hit. Throat / very very close to larynx. Back to radiation & chemo, feeding tube. As one can imagine 2 cancers that were unrelated in 5 yrs. or less has left me very weak, easily fatigued, riddled with constant upper body pain in every place the surgeons cut into me. BUT BUT BUT................... I'm here to tell my story!!!!! I SURVIVED!!!!! THANK YOU FATHER.
The Beatles: 'Here comes the sun'
The Byrds' version of 'Turn turn turn (for everything there is a season'
Totally agree with "I Will Survive" - I feel stronger every time I listen to it. When it comes to my health, my mantra is "Never, Never Give Up!" Somehow in a 2 month long deep coma right after 10 hr. esophagectomy surgery with my death certificate ready to be signed, I awoke and proved I Will Survive. The ICU should have been playing that tune loud and clear for me on that memorable day!
I heard this song on the radio recently and have played it a lot for my own solace. It’s quite powerful and I’m sending the link to my friend who is undergoing cancer treatments right now. He’s very faith based and I think he’ll like it. It speaks of miracles, which we both want.
Such a beautiful song! Thank you for sharing. Hugs.
A great topic...don't we all need encouragement?
Currently, I am being treated for Stage 4 prostate cancer. I'm on my 3rd pacemaker. I have endured spinal fusion, and being hit by a car while jogging.
I am scheduled for hip replacement (July 8) having both right and left heart caths on June 20, and pending neck fusion for cervical spinal stenosis. (Date to be determined.)
All to say, Gratitude for my blessings is the best encouragement I have found and music and scripture are my primary sources. As a follower of Jesus, the following song and scripture verses have been helpful
Praise the Lord:
and the scripture:
II Corinthians 4:16-18 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Be Strong and Courageous.
What a powerful message! Thank you and many prayers for your comfort and healing.
Yes! This is a favorite of mine. I am going through treatment and this song is such an encouragement. Bless God and everyone that's fighting. Stay encouraged
