Prolia and Evenity Together
Today my Endocrinologist recommended I continue taking Prolia, which I have been on for almost 4 years, along with Evenity for one year. I have severe osteoporosis with many fractures through the years. Has anyone else's doctor recommended taking both together?
Thank you.

I am on #9 of Evenity and my endo Md said she wants me to go on reclast after the Evenity not Prolia which I would never go on .
Thanks for your input…I thought both were bisphosphonates and therefore have similar issues. Do you know what the difference would be? Would really appreciate why one is safer! I need to decide too and was leaning toward Reclast but my doc doesn’t care which one..but I
do.
Hi @gently - Thanks for responding. Of course individual treatment experiences are extremely valuable and I have learned a lot from those experiences. It is tough for a lot of people to share their stories and they are brave to do so.
From a reader perspective, one has to take all experiences with a grain of salt. When placebo adverse events are near equal to on drug events, you have to put everything into perspective. I have read and heard a lot of stories of people getting scared off of treatment just to have a spine or hip break a few years later, and then go on the drug they were scared off of in the first place.
I agree with you on reading trials thoroughly as the devil is in the details for these things. But if you are pushing a T-score of -4.5 and you get convinced that just changing the type of calcium you are taking is going to move the needle, you are headed for disaster.
Just based on what I have learned in the 20 short months since being diagnosed myself. 🙂
Helen, thanks. My response was about respecting our members and their choices.
Evenity is an Anabolic medication not a Bisphosphonate .
An Anabolic is one that increases bone tissue thus bone-building and limits bone breakdown . Bisphosphonates inhibit bone resorption only .
I agree it would be very difficult just changing calcium when you have a T score of -4.5 .
My spine T score is -4.6 and I fought off medications for 2 years and tried all types of natural modalities and now I am on Evenity .
I am on evenity too and it’s one year is almost up…
now what? Do you have any info on the difference between Reclast and Prolia..any studies as I’d like to base it in facts.
I just had my first Evinity injections last week. No reactions as of yet. I just couldn’t take the stress of not knowing what to do, knowing I’m not good at following through on exercise and diet on my own, and just the general confusion and anxiety I was experiencing. I’ll keep posting if anyone wants to know how the process goes for the first months.
My endocrinologist wants me to use Reclast next.
All I know is that Prolia is not one I would consider due to Stopping Prolia injections can cause a rebound increase in bone turnover which increases risk of multiple vertebral fractures. I really don’t want to be on a medication the rest of my life . https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36564572/
Pubmed has a lot of studies on reclast and Prolia .
I know that everybody is different in their responses to meds . I have a friend whose mother used Prolia and is in such pain she can barely walk . Let’s face it all these drugs can be anxiety producing. It’s a hard choice and I pray for the right one . Please keep me updated on your choice and how it works out for you . I have 3 more months to go before my final decision .
I forgot to ask..what is #9 Evenity?
