Whole Body Vibration for Osteoporosis

Posted by jmanj @jmanj, Jun 24, 2021

I’m looking into Whole Body Vibration to aid in bone building for osteoporosis. I’ve read that Low Intensity Vibration is better than high intensity. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hi @jmanj, while we wait for more members to weigh in on vibration for osteoporosis, I know that @jesfactsmon , Hank's wife has used Confidence Fitness Slim Full Body Vibration Platform Fitness Machine for some of her medical issues.

Can you share what you have found regarding whole body vibration treatment?

I’ve only just learned of this treatment. Just heard a blog from a PT Woman who uses it

I have had osteoporosis for years. I’m a 79 woman. I don’t have pain unless I have to stand still straight and when I walk. When I start to walk I can’t stand up straight and, therefore, I can’t breathe and can’t breathe and can’t stand up and walk. Does this sound right. I’ve been to pulmonary and coronary doctors and nothing was found. Love to hear if this is normal.

I started using the Marodyne low intensity vibration plate one year ago. When I started, I had had a Reclast infusion ( my first and only) and my Dena score for spine was -2.8. Last month, I had another Dexa scan done and I am now in the Osteopenia range (-2.1). My Endocrinologist feels that the Marodyne along with increased calcium intake must have helped, as it is extremely unusual to have the numbers drop. I was planning another infusion, but now that I have osteopenia rather than osteoporosis, I no longer need bone meds, just continue with over the counter calcium and vitamin D3 .

Good to hear your news! By coincidence, I have also -2,8 spine score. I am using Marodyne for 1 year now, and am going to make DEXA in may. Hope to bring good news about vibration platform to this forum as well! I take calcium with vit. D, and also vitamin K2, Mg and collagen.

Hoping for good results on your upcoming dexa scan. For me, I think it was the combination of the one Reclast infusion along with the Marodyne. So releaved to not have another Reclast infusion as I had horrible side affects with it.

I took 8 months of Evenity (stopped due to side effects instead of full 12 months) and then did a Reclast infusion at the end. I got some improvements but they did not seem to last at my most recent dexascan in February. I am trying to increase weight training and started Osteostrong in April now.
My endocrinologist said some of her patients have had success with it. I am reluctant to try any more prescription medications.
Where do you access the Marodyne? Did you buy it? Thanks.

I purchased it from Copa Healthcare in Florida. It ships from Germany and did take about 4 months to arrive. It’s a big expense but I am glad I purchased it and it only takes 10 minutes once or twice a day to use. I believe they advertise online for $3200.00 but am pretty sure you can get them to take about $200.00 off the sale price.

I bought a low intensity vibration plate from VibranthealthBC in canada. Mine is the Ultimate Vibe, cost about $500 (maybe there was a sale) -- It's the only low intensity platform I could find other than Marodyne, but costs much less, and has options to change the vibration speed if I ever felt that was the right thing to do. They have other products. I could not find any negative reviews. My bone doc thought the Power Plate, etc, could be too strong & dangerous for serious osteoporosis, but he thinks LIV can't hurt me. I was a seriously strong & fit person despite osteoporosis, but I have now fractured L1, 2, and 3 so had to change habits.

Anecdotally, my acupuncturist told me that one of his patients, in her 70s with osteoporosis, decided to use PowerPlate instead of drugs, and reports she increased her bone density significantly in 2 years. She had not gotten to the fracture stage yet. But I suppose my bone doc is right that too much vibration could be dangerous for someone like me who has fractured already from just coughing.

I had a year of Evenity followed by Prolia (just 3 shots so far) but I fractured for the third time in October. So the drugs are not going save my bones probably. My bone doc showed me a controlled clinical study on a probiotic, Lactobacillus reuteri, which appears to reduce bone loss in older women. So I have added that.

Another opinion from someone who knows a WHOLE lot more than I do!

I would like to add my own evidence about using a vibration platform because I wanted to avoid taking medicines. I used Marodyn Liv platform for about 14 months, and I also took during this period calcium (600-800mg), vit. D, collagen, vit.K2 and Mg. In addition I visited training center or walked about 6 km a day. Today I have done my DEXA scan. The results were following. For hip T score changed from -2 to 1.9. However, the spine T score worsened dramatically, from -1,6 to -3,0. I shall visit my doctor to find his explanations, but it appears that my most powerful weapon that I hoped for (vibration) did not work for me.
