Living in the world today

Hello to all

I have to post this as a ‘just want to talk’ with the discussion group…I woke this morning with a serious case of anxiety and part of it probably reflects the event of yesterday…the title of this topic..
I was in Walmart yesterday in a self checkout line with a medium order..the first line of machinery was blocked off.. I noticed behind me a lady in her late 40’s mid fifties wanting to move by me to the other side of the checkout machines…they were being used but I mentioned that I could move my basket if she wanted to get by..she replied no, I will back up and start over again.. I didn’t think 🤔 much about it until I was finished scanning and the chip reader malfunctioned…Walmart was crowded and very noisy, therefore to get the young man’s attention to the problem, I was forced to yell over to him to get him to see that I was having trouble..he was a nice young guy…I would say Latin American who agreed with my comment that these machines ought to be taken out, they seem to be more problematic than time consuming…the point is, at some point behind me, the lady who wanted to get by, met my eye as the assistant and myself started to move to another machine, and glared at me, Iwas about to ask her something, I’m not sure what, when she uttered the statement’I can only be embarrassed for you’, I’ve never seen or heard such rudeness’…I was stunned, but I did say to her, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about lady’…the rest went fast, the young man scanned the ticket info from the malfunctioned reader and I was off. I thanked him, and he was nice said ‘have a nice one’ and then she called him over and started apologizing to him for my behavior…my Irish went up on that and I yelled over to her,and said ‘lady, I don’t know what your problem is, but you should mind your own business’….that’s as mild as I could keep it….and I left…I’ve been shopping there for years, have had nothing but nice experiences from customers and employees who help me in many ways…but this is the world we live in today…this woman looked stressed to the …she had that deranged look in her eye…it really gave me the creeps…the tension and stress that people are going through these days can sometimes cross the food checkout lines….🙏pvctom

Hello to all

It’s been cold 🥶 windy and rainy here for the last two days…
I have been playing my guitar nightly and recording the 20 minute or so track exploring different sounds and watching a vintage 50’s sci-fi movie…Checked onto a zoom AA meeting last night and will do so again tonight…I feel better and not as isolated…and yet my wife doesn’t seem to have any problems with living a solitary lifestyle..but then, she has myself always looking out for her and visa versa.. and even still, I awoke this morning from a peaceful sleep to a horrible feeling of worry and dread..then I looked to my iPhone and saw 2 texts from my next door right across the wall from us neighbor Larry …. He has had all kinds of leg problems with stents, wounds that are infected,,on antibiotics, he’s had a terrible go of it..and he was determined to go on this 10 day or 8 day? Cruise to the eastern Caribbean…well he sent 4 pics and a distress text that he was having trouble with his right thigh…I told him to just take it easy on the walking and enjoy the rest of the trip…the cramped flight back from Miami is what he’s got to be very mindful of…I’m going to the mall to do my walk…and I’ve also got to be mindful that my muscles and tendons are still sore from too much walking and just trying to heal from my fall face down at the beginning of the month..it comes and goes…sometimes the hip and knee joints on both sides fell good and other times they feel sore/tight…I have an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon on the 24th April…those poor people on the key bridge and their families…wish all here a safe peaceful day and night 🙏pvctom

Hello to all

Easter Sunday—I hope that all are having a nice weekend and an Easter Sunday…Living in the world today found me again at Walmart , the only box store around here opened … as I was shopping for some things for our little Easter dinner, a nice man came along and helped me get some coffee filters from the bottom shelf…very nice of him to offer as I was not having much success with my cane.. I thanked him and was on my way.
My hips are still achy and thigh muscle on the operated THR side still very sore..the left knee also very sore..I shall be glad to see the orthopedic surgeon on the 24th of this month and have him either X-ray it or examine it..however I’ve been getting steps in this week..almost averaging 9500 a day..my anxiety level was pretty bad this morning and again this afternoon before I went in to Walmart… look forward to hopefully a good start on tomorrow..must always maintain
or try to maintain some gratitude for all that I am still able to do….wish all here a good week ahead 🙏 pvctom

You are out and about, that is what counts. I can't do much the 7 days after chemo.
My highlight will be a shower tomorrow, hopefully. But then I should be back to my daily 1/2 hour walks.
I am impressed with your step count. Do you have a pedometer?

Thanks for your kind reply..you are very courageous and you will be back with your daily walks very soon…I have an iPhone that counts my daily steps over a 24 hr day.. I am cautiously walking now because of a recent fall.. I have learned that balance and not falling are as important as moving…having fun while walking is a good thing…I walk but when I wish to stop and browse or say hello to the merchants I do.. I know that you will be back in the walking routine soon..🙏

Yes, my favorite part of walking is seeing the neighbors. I have now met about 15 of them. I wave to them and sometimes talk to them. I also wave at 3 different cats, a dog and 3 chickens.
We walk two loops and if I don't see all the critters on the first round I usually see them on the second round.
I think the lady with the cat in the window sometimes places the cat on the sill because the cat looks back into the house sometimes. The cat named Bella really watches us and we wave and call her name.
Walking is good physically and spiritually. We are more than a physical body, we are also heart and soul. Keep walking and saying hi to the world! 🤗

I have found that anyone under 59 is prone to the behavior you encountered . Positive you didn't deserve her rudeness. I'm with a walke or a scooter. If someone speaks disrespectful to me I just say "watch yourself" and keep going! The disrespectful is horrible, I'm so sorry you had t h at encount er. It's so not you!

Oh floralou, generalizations like this make me so sad! We live in a largely Hispanic community, where everyone is taught by example to respect and care for their elders. Doors are held, laundry baskets and grocery bags put in cars, carts returned and all manner of assistance offered by the younger people here. Teens jump up to give us "abuelas" their chairs in crowds.

On the other hand, the older men (winter visitors) are apt to just walk in front of us through doors and not hold them, not take turns in lines, etc. And the young are far less judgmental about many issues than many of my peers who believe there way is the only right way.

So goes life, so please don't single out one group and paint them as bad.
