Leg and Foot cramps.

Posted by danny67 @danny5, Feb 5 1:10am

wondering if there is anybody with this problem. i get muscle cramps in both legs and feet. but they are more frequent and worse in my right leg. from just below the knee. and into the foot. always at night, when i'm in bed. bad enough that the right foot twitches also.
i hope this is in the correct discussion post.

Ive had the same nocturnal cramps for many years despite using magnesium supplements and gabapentin Rx. Even PT stretching did not really help much. I found Theraworx Relief foam, advertised by Dr Drew. It surprisingly works great, better if you apply before getting into bed. Walmart, CVS or Amazon

I get them too, so bad it keeps me awake. I've had them for over 30 years. Magnesium does help most nights. I found Trazodone makes the pain so much worse. I took it for years before figuring that out. I use one of those big massagers, putting it between my feet or calves on high. That numbs the pain for a little while.

I've had similar all my life, but gradually getting worse over the years. I started on CoQ10 a couple of years ago, which has seemed to diminish the symptoms by over 80%.

Hi Danny,

Quick update on leg spasms. Neurologist increased the baclofen to 20 mg 4x daily. Added Cymbalta (for my neuropathy pain) and increased the pregabalin doubling it to 150mg 2x daily. If I was depressed before the Cymbalta will tackle that too. Along with anxiety that comes with pain of this magnitude.

I had an improved night sleep. I still had to hang the foot over the beds edge to prevent triggering a spasm. It helps. Weird huh?

Hope you all are feeling better.

i'm glad you had a descent knight of sleep. how many MG of Cymbalta did the doctor give you? i take it also. 120 mg a day. both for the neuropathy and depression. really works great for the depression. weird about the foot over the edge of the bed. cool air maybe? also no pressure of the blankets on the foot. is it just one foot? d 🏳️‍🌈

She stated me on 20 a day to titrate as I’m adjusting..
3/21 had quadruple vision after brain zaps and Halo after that right eyes
Had triple vision in left eye.
Same this morning vision changes.

I’m embarrassed to say at times both feet. I will sleep on an angle. Wake up to different positions. I think I’m adjusting as I sleep.

Left leg heavier/a little discomfort.

Im calling the eye dr and neurologist to come off cymbalta slow taper most likely and for an eye exam unless my guy wants to take me to the er for quick eval to r/o mini stroke. I know I might be over assessing, but based on the fast progression of symptoms, I should…

i'm sorry you're having this much trouble. are you sure it's the Cymbalta? i believe it would be best to go to the er. DO NOT take any chances if you think it might be a mini stroke. never assume you're over reacting with anything. that's where people get in trouble. d 🏳️‍🌈

I suffered from painful cramps in my lower leg/foot (both of them) for years. The cramps would come on suddenly while I was asleep and wake me up, and I'd leap out of bed and try to flatten my foot and walk it off; usually after walking a while it would remit and I could get back to sleep. This was a frequent event for many years, until I read in Jane Brody's health column in the NYT that she had suffered from them too. Her remedy: An eight-ounce glass of tonic water nightly before bedtime. I tried it (using diet tonic water) and have very rarely had cramps since then. The Peoples' Pharmacy has written about this treatment; the very small amount of quinine in the tonic water seems to do the trick for many people, and it has definitely worked for me. If you do the research you'll find that the amount of quinine is so minute that it "shouldn't" have this effect... but it does for me and others.

I have Cramp Fasciculation Syndrome (all my life, I'm 67) having several cramps a day when younger to increasing to now having several cramps an hour. These are mainly in the feet, toes, hands and fingers but do effect every muscle system throughout my body. In the past couple of years, a few times I've been rushed to hospital when I've suffered cramps in my diaphram and abdomin making it extremely difficult to breathe. When diagnosed as a teenager, the doctor prescribed quinine sulphate which was very effective in stopping the cramps. I'd take the QS for a week, no cramps, but if I missed a dose, I'd get a week's worth of cramps in one go. I decided to stop the QS and suffer the cramps one at a time rather than all together.
