Hair Loss After 3 Years of AFib
I have never had hair loss. My hairdresser freaked out when she discovered part of the side of my head had none. I have been on Eliquis for three years, also take 12.5 of Metropolol when needed. This loss occurred slowly. Having had the Amulet implanted, I am off blood thinners. I do not take the beta blocker unless my BP is at least 120.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I have had AFiB for about 13 years and I am 79 years old and had very thick curly hair until 2020 when I got Covid then a few months after that my hair started to fall out and my curly hair was straight and hard to comb. It quit falling out about a year later then I got Covid again in Jan of 2024 and now my hair is falling out again and is very thin. I do not know how many Covid longhaulers have had this happen.
My hair has been thinning for the last year or so, but I’d attributed it to aging (78) until I looked up ‘follicular miniaturization’, which is what my dermatologist diagnosed. Since then my thyroid readings have been sub- normal, which may also cause it, and I learned that it can be a long but temporary after-effect of general anesthesia. I had an emergency pacemaker surgery 1/4/23 and then was diagnosed with paroxysmal afib a few months later and was put on Eliquis. Then I needed a partial nephrectomy and at Christmas had surgery, from which I didn’t wake up for three days. They think I had a flurry of clots go to my brain because I had to go off the blood thinner for the procedure, but a pacemaker check showed there was no afib incident on the dates of the crisis. So anyway I’m now thinking the hair loss set in last year after the PM surgery and has started again because of the most recent one. My message is just that it can be from many causes. Good luck.
A friend is an executive with public health. She says Covid caused that. I have never tested positive for Covid.
Eliquis can cause hair loss and other things, too.
I have never had Covid, either.
