I'm currently taking 5mg. It's effective at initiating sleep, but I don't find it as effective at keeping me asleep. I have not experienced some of the side effects like paralysis or vivid dreams; however, I do "test" my legs when getting out of bed to pee, just in case. As I've experienced depression, anxiety, and insomnia for a while; I don't know how much I can expect to have improved sleep with any medication that's OK to take long-term. I've also used Ramelteon which is only similar to Melatonin to me. Good luck!

josephpreid, nobody should have to suffer with insomnia and anxiety and depression when there are meds that will help you. My doctor finally said, "why don't we try 1 medication for both your issues".... I have insomnia and anxiety. So he put me on Lorazepam and I just take it at night for sleep.....but it seems to help the next day with any anxiety I might have. Hardly ever have to take it during the day. And before being prescribed Lorazepam, I was prescribed Diazepam (Valium) as needed for anxiety and also Ambien for sleep. But Ambien did not work good for me. Very happy with the Lorazepam results and the fact that I only take 1 medication for both issues now.
