@ava11, if you would like to seek a second opinion at Mayo Clinic, you can submit a request here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
When speaking with a coordinator, they can tell you more about the proton beam therapy team's depth of experience. Dr. Sameer Keole talks about Mayo Clinic's approach to proton beam therapy in this video.

I live in Irvine California. Phoenix, AZ would be closer and I also have friends and relatives there. I would go to Rochester if there is a better doctor in Rochester. I will have only chance to get it right.!

I have seen the video. I have a portal at Mayo clinic Phoenix. Waiting for an intake coordinator to contact me. I would like to get an appointment with Dr Sameer Keole as soon as possible.
Is there any way you suggest to speed up the process?
gently,
I am waiting for a clinical coordinator to contact me for a week. Is this normal? That is why I am reaching out to Mayo clinic Phoenix. I live in Irvine about 70 miles from California Proton center. Didn't know it is this hard to get a phone consult!
Not usual. I would recontact and ask why it is taking so long. There might be a hold up with getting your records. You might have to wait for treatment which wouldn't matter if you plan on ADT. Dr Yu at Mayo has a California License and can consult with you by zoom. Thus Medicare will pay. He is younger and won't have the vast experience of an older doc, but I would recommend him, only having seen him once. He is out of UCLA. Knows Kishan.

I would be recontacting them if I were you. By the way since I've been to both Rochester and Phoenix for treatment, I find that Rochester responds much quicker than Phoenix. Hopefully you don't have a Medicare Advantage plan since Phoenix doesn't accept any Advantage plans. Rochester does take some Advantage plans, but you need to contact them. Good luck.

I recommend the Mayo Proton Beam Team. They are consummate professionals before, during and after treatment. I have read many prostate patient experiences elsewhere and am always surprised by how many folks had negative experiences. I am available to discuss my personal experience and searching for my comments on this site will provide much detail as to my diagnosis, treatment and results.
Best wishes to all who dealing with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Know that you are not alone and that for most early cases prognosis is extremely good. Treatment for advanced stages are extending lives dramatically. So do not panic.

Hi Ava11, I'm not sure of your situation. I had proton beam therapy at Phoenix, but it was over 5 years ago. When I decided to use proton therapy, I contacted them to be a patient. They requested my biopsy, which was 4+4 Gleason score. After they got the results, I was accepted within a week and had an appointment within another week. They did MRI to ensure the cancer was contained in the prostrate. After it was confirmed no spread, I began ADT and proton therapy in 2 months. I just finished my 5 year checkup and PSA is >.10 and in good shape.
My experience with Phoenix Mayo is the most knowledgeable, professional and client oriented staff I've ever had with any medical facility. I can't speak to the situation now, but I would try and use them again.

I believe @docwatson @jb2buckwater @slick64 @ken82 @dandl48 @rcs @waynen @wrig1jam @jim20403 @jimcinak @gankster @bjroc may have had proton beam therapy for prostate cancer at Mayo Clinic and can share more about the team approach.
@ava11, which Mayo Clinic location were you considering: Rochester, MN or Phoenix, AZ?

Thank you.
Medicare is primary and Anthem Blue Cross PPO is supplemental. Phoenix has no problem with my insurance coverage.
