Granuloma Annulare: Any ideas for treatment?

Posted by Tommy D. @tommyd, Jan 23, 2012

I have been diagnosed with Granuloma Annulare.Started out with 2 or 3 places on my arm and now have some on my legs. New places are continuing to crop up.
I have tried several steroidal creams but nothing seems to make them disappear. While there is no discomfort, it is not too appealing to look at.
Any ideas for treatment would be appreciated.

I was diagnosed with GA in October, 2022 after seeing a dermatologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I started taking hydroxychloroquine in March, 2023 and my GA red spots have mostly disappeared and the itchiness is gone!

How long have you been taking that medication and what are the milligrams you are on?
I take 1 tablet one day and two tablets the next, they are 200 mgs each.

In response to questions about dosage: I take 200 mg twice a day. I did need to have an EKG and a vision field test before starting on this medicine.

Unsightly is the key word. You sound like you have a very good attitude about this.Do you wear clothes to cover up or do you even worry about it? I just get tired of people asking "what's that?" Also, where I live, its hard to cover up when its so blooming Hot. Thanks for your reply. May God bless you richly!

I don't mind people asking about it. I hope they can share a story they heard somewhere and I'll learn something new. Don't get me wrong, I was distraught when it started years ago and kept growing. I cried because I have so many issues, but, I can still walk, talk, garden, shop. I made me some Capri's jeans, wore a t=shirt went swimming. It is really ugly, itches ,I have gotten fat from steroids, age spots, old lady warts, scars from being a kid. I cannot undo most of this so I hide it and enjoy life. I have injections in my neck and back and I tell the staff in the OR that it isn't contagious, just ugly. They say they have seen worse. At least it won't grow on your face.

Hello, since I have had a detached retina, I was told I can only take it for probably 6 months so I’m in hope s of it clearing up soon along with the phototherapy treatments.

Hello,
I am from Holland and found this platform. I have GA since 2019. It started with two rings around my knees. The last year it is everywhere on my legs and arms, at least 60 rings. It Sems to be getting worse lately.
My dermatologist has no real cure for me. He reccommends a few things we could try like Dapson or light therapy.
I don’t feel trying any of this.

I have stopped my medicine since two weeks now: Femoston (I use this because I was post-menopausel since my 37th). I got this medicine prescribed since september 2018 and a half year later I got my first GA-spots. Could there be a relation? Don’t know but I am going to give it a try..

Have you tried Solaray? And if yes: did it help? Has the GA gone away?
