Does Anyone know how to taper off of lorazepam I was taking it because my husband abandoned me after almost 20 years and no communication no nothing it put me into shock and Trauma and that's why the doctors put me on this anxiety drug but I want to taper off I heard that it's very hard to taper off because the withdrawal symptoms can come back after we're off of it
Hi @911489348. Welcome to Connect! We're glad to have you here.
We have a number of members who have experience both with taking these types of medications and with withdrawing from them. I'm tagging @lorrainechavez, @susandenise, @purvissp, @roxie43, @shellb123 and @trytiffme who may be able to provide some support and insights. I'm also tagging @jbyrd and @mrshmallow who have posted about anxiety.
Also, I wanted to let you know i'm going to move this thread to the Mental Health group and changing the title slightly since I think you'll get more activity that way.

Benzos are the best, but learning how to deal with your emotions and practicing distress tolerance skills from a cognitive behavioral approach is better.

HI Kelsy, can you place me with others on Lorazapam /ativan and zoloft, Im on both, and I am not sure I want to use these, Want to know more about tapering off , and which one to go first. The zoloft is suppose to be fore my anxiety, and the anxiety I am having is separation anxiety from my husband of 20 yrs just up and walked off and without a clue, The night before he said he loved me and when I got on the plane to leave for a week, he got on dating sites and never wanted to talk about it. I need a closure. not drugs. anyone out there in a similar position. I miss him and want to patch things up, Im devastated and I have a ton of responsibilities to take care of , I feel like a zombie taking the zoloft, Never been on it before, Im very sensitive to thesse things.
I cant stand the anxiety, any natural ways for the separation anxiety.
Im doing the breathing, prayers, meditation, but nothing helps,
Thanks.
Hi 911489348. I'm so sorry about what your husband did. Zoloft (which I take) is for depression and you should probably stay on it, because I'm not sure whether your mental health will plummet if you taper off. I also take ativan or valium, both of which are for anxiety. I also take other drugs and know I'd be in a desperate condition without them. If you see a therapist, and talk about what your husband did, that might help you process it eventually and you won't need meds anymore. But something like what your husband did can Probably leave negative effects for a long time. Good luck.

@billymac65 I'm wondering if you could share your experience with tapering off lorazepam with new Connect member @911489348. @lakelifelady do you have any thoughts?

Well, I have not done so yet....but have Remeron prescribed for anxiety and depression. Would just take 1mg Lorazepam
In morning and the Remeron at bedtime. We will see how that works. I am greatly sensitive to meds, so I tend to be wary of anything new.

I want off this stuff, it helps, me sleep, but the withdrawals scare me. but I am so afraid of the withdrawals. Help.... Recently Dr put me on Zoloft at 100, had to go back down, just dont feel right on that. and it doesn't help. Why dont these drs tell us about the withdrawals and weaning off,
