Weakness and pain in both legs
Hello all; Im using this as kind of a last ditch effort to help figure things out. Ive had issues with fasciculations and wierd feelings in my limbs for years. I have had two EMG over the past three years. The first showed "Of note, there are rare fasciculations in all muscles tested. This is of uncertain significance at this time but could be repeated again in 6 months and patient should be followed closely for weakness."
The second one a year later showed "There is no electrophysiologic evidence of peripheral neuropathy, myopathy, or other diffuse neurogenic or myopathic process. The findings of afterdischarges following 20, 50, 100 hertz repetitive nerve stimulation are nonspecific but may be seen with peripheral nerve hyperexcitability.
Bascially they are saying more than likely CFS. Fast forward 6 months to today. Both my legs have been in pain every day all day for about two months now. Basically feels like Ive been running marathons everyday and my legs are tearing from the inside. I have been to Orthopedist and they havent found anything. Ive been to Rheumatoid and they arent seeing much of anything. I had a positive ANA test, but then a negative one after.
I'm reaching the end of my rope because it feels like nerve pain that will not go away. I feel wobbly all the time and like my legs will give out. When I wake up in the middle of the night my legs are ok, but I walk a few steps to go the bathroom and then get back in bed; my legs feel like I just did 50 squats. I get the "creepy crawly" fasciculations all over both legs. Mainly in my Quads. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions are welcome because I really dont know where to go from here; but living like this is not pleasant. I really just want to figure this out so I can try and get back to ahealthy and happy life. Thanks for any support/recommendation.

I can’t believe you are the second person today to have similar symptoms to me! Omg, it’s outrageous. Feel like I’m being punked. I had a very similar situation with my legs back….oh, I think it was 15 years ago. I saw primary, endocrinologist, rheumatologist and neurologist. They could offer no answers. The rheumatologist sent letter to my primary that she was baffled, but that in her opinion my condition looked a lot like polymyalgia rheumatica, except that I was too young. The neurologist ordered blood tests, MRI and EMG. No answers. So, I waited and eventually…..about 9 months later, it gradually resolved. My stiffness and weakness left. It took years to get my strength back, but PT would have helped.
Around that time, I also got 2 frozen shoulders and a stubborn spasm in my back.
I struggled to convey just how weak, sore and stiff my leg muscles were! I described it as you did….like I ran a marathon with no training. I didn’t have pain, unless I moved my legs. Just sore. I was active and ran 3 miles a day before this happened.
I hope you can find some relief. If I get it again, I’ll likely get into intense PT and consult with an acupuncturist. Both, have helped me tremendously with other issues over the last 5 years.
Oh, I had benign body wide fasciculations in Nov last year and was determined to not have neuropathy.
Have you considered acupuncture, homeopathic medicine since you seem to have struck out so far?
I have not tried homeopathic or acupuncture. In all honesty; I never really knew how I felt about either of those things; but I'm starting to get a little more open minded these days. Thank you both for your replies!
You sound like me in kind of being off school about trying new things, from technology to fashion to medicine. I have to see a lot of people try it, or I struggle believing it works unless insurance plans have started covering it. I finally took a step on the wild side & out of my comfort zone and tried a round of acupuncture after a lot of reading and encouragement from this forum. I was pleasantly surprised at the results it had for me. I felt it definitively had a calming effect on my leg nerves.
My therapist didn’t suggest it as an ongoing therapy, which was one reason I was a bit reluctant - I wasn’t looking for a new lifelong regimen since I want Physical Therapy as a main time commitment in my life as needed. There were only 5 sessions recommended, so that had me willing to try it. Good luck in finding what works for you!
If I had the stiff, sore and weak leg muscles again, to tne degree that I had it years ago, I would ask my physiotherapist about dry needling. There are other types of PT that I have encountered such as myofascial release that I would inquire about. Acupuncture is also an option I would favor for myself.
I have used From Novaalab Red Light Therapy cost me $224 FDA approved I has worked FANTASTIC for my leg problems an foot problems it's a new thing out. I talked to my Therapist about it an only reason they weren't to new for Medicare to cover
What kind of leg and foot problems did it help you with?
Does amiodarone cause neuropathy
I just checked the Novaalab website. Could you let us know which item you used? You mentioned $224. There are a couple of units that are on sale with that price.
A local Integrative medicine clinic uses red light therapy, but I've read they charge over $200 for the initial visit to be assessed.
I have arthritis in my knee and back and assume I could use this for these problems too.
Thanks in advance
Sue
