Neuropathy caused by toxins, poisons and chemicals

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Apr 6, 2022

We all read the safety notices on those household and garden chemicals...right? One of the lesser known side effects of some toxins, poisons and chemicals is toxic neuropathy. I'm hoping we can use this discussion to allow members to share their chemical induced neuropathy journey to learn from each other and to raise awareness of the possible dangers.

I worked in a chemical plant that used nickel powder to manufacture nickel sulfate, I believe that is why i have neurapathy

Do you suspect environmental toxins in your home or have you had it tested?

Definitely triggered by something in the hour that I bought 3 years ago. Symptoms getting worse with long exposure. Professional Air Quality testing each year. Not Radon, mold, formaldehyde. Some kind of Volatile organic compounds, but worse end with different weather conditions. Primary Care and Neurologist very sceptical of actual physical effects. Say they don’t know what tests to do. Bloodwork is good. Neuropathy and imbalance and fatigue are debilitating. Thank you for listening.

I get neuro sensations from toxic things in the environment, including new clothes and new furniture. I believe it is fire retardants and other things used to treat fabric. Foam can outgas in time. Some manufacturers will outgas before purchase.

Thank you for sharing. I totally understand. I keep finding sensitivity triggers. Some essential oils and even incense at church which didn’t bother me before.

Are you EMF sensitive?

In 2008 I had pneumonia and had to fly over seas at this time. My pulmonary doctor gave me heavy doses of antibiotics to clear up pneumonia. I was in bad shape and knew it. I should have been in the hospital, but I had to go. The antibiotics worked. About 12 months later, noticed slight numbness in toes and side of feet. That was the beginning of the PN. Is my PN caused by
Cipro and other strong antibiotics prescribed in 2008 or just a coincidence. Will never know for sure.

My toxin was too much Vitamin B6. I thought I could help my neuropathy in my toes by taking a B Complex which had 100 mg. That is 5, 882% RDA. It made it worse and other symptoms started. The excess B6 accompanied by a dehydrating event caused Small Fiber Polyneuropathy. B6 Toxicity can cause damage to your autonomic, sensory, and motor nerves. That is so good that you were able to identify the toxin causing your neuropathy. My doctor and family are skeptical that my neuropathy and other symptoms are an actual physical illness. Thank you for the information and website.
