What's your review of Cochlear Osia 2 System?

I am getting the implants in a week or so. Would like to hear from people who are using these bone conduction devices.

Hi, I am using OSIA2 Implant for my left ear. Overall the device is good but the after Implant service from Cochlear(India, Pune) is very pathetic. I had harrowing time to get my initial setting of the processor, after the implant. Its been 5 months since my implant, still I have not received my warranty card for the implant, processor and accessories.

I’ve only had my OSIA 2 for 4-5 weeks now. I may have misunderstood your support statement (?) but my Audiologist had made arrangements for my card to arrive a few weeks prior to the surgery. My fitting and programming of my single sided OSIA 2 was handled by my Audiologist, as with follow-up fine tuning with no issues. I’ve gone thru the Cochlear website to order my Dri Pak and even able to call their English speaking support team on a couple of occasions prior to my surgery with no issues; albeit non warranty related with that I would have gone thru my Audiologist.
The only thing I’m not impressed with is their phone app which is mediocre at best as I transitioned from a Phonak single sided hearing aid which had an excellent app.

Hello all! I am new to this group. I seen a lot of questions being posed about the OSIA 2 device.
I have had this device inserted for my right ear for my hearing loss and I LOVE IT since feb 2021.
I have had bad hearing loss since I was 9 years old and been through the MANY MANY hearing aids. If you have questions please reach out.

Can you wear helmets with the Osia?

Hello, just had implant surgery last Wednesday 2-21-24. Get second part(speaker system on 5/7). First two days after surgery went ok. Some pain and bruising type soreness. Day three I feel like I’m over the hump and doing well. Only suggestions I would have are to take all meds as directed including stool softener. If you do you’ll have no problem. Can’t wait to see how it actually works in May!

Can you let me know if you can wear a bike helmet or hats after you have received the speaker part? If it doesn’t interfere with the sound (ie, whistling noise with the helmet on). I am
Interested in having the Osia, but only if it helps with wearing helmets during sports.

Skier 16, I have had an Osia 2 bone conduction implant for a couple of years now. Are you aware that you can test drive the implant by wearing a processor placed over the bone with a headband? It is not quite as strong as having one placed directly into the bone, obviously, but it would give you an idea of how it would sound. Your ENT could fix you up with that. I wear hats and headbands with my processor, but I am not sure how well you would be able to hear with a helmet. Since the processor needs to be somewhat exposed to receive sound, I would think it may not work. Of course the same would be true of any hearing aid that is covered up. I assume it would all depend on the style of the helmet.
I will leave you with this. You do not wear a helmet 24 hours a day, and the benefit you would receive when wearing it during the normal course of your day would be beneficial. Since I am totally deaf on my right side, I cannot determine which direction sound is coming from unless I am wearing it.
Also consider you may be a candidate for a bicross hearing aid. Unfortunately, I was not able to go that route.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

@lmayo, thank you for your input. I started wearing a bone conduction hearing aid at 6 months old. Born with Treacher Collins Syndrome- no ear canal or outer ears.
About 22 years ago i was fitted with the BAHA on the right side, progressed to the BAHA 6 (never liked it as i could not get the same tones as the BAHA 5). I am able to wear the BAHA 5 under my ski helmet; sometimes it does whistle.
I was just fitted with the Oticon 5 Power for the left side, appears that i can wear one at a time under my ski helmet, but not both at the same time. Have not tried with the bike helmet yet. I can wear both sides with a ball cap.
Now the decision is do I want to get the Osia on the right side.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community, Colleen. I appreciated the discussion between Lizzy, Tony, Joyces and others. Also got a second chance to look at the FDA benefits and risks. I am 73, have been using bilateral hearing aids (Oticon and Phonak), from about 2005 until now. Increasing chronic infection and discharge in both ears, and resistance to oral antibiotics, has led me to being no longer able to wear hearing aids. I am still using a hearing aid in my left ear, but I need to wipe out the external ear canal every 15-30 minutes to keep it from "flooding out." ;-{> Bone conduction implants are now the best way for me to have hearing assist, and Cochlear's Osia 2 was suggested by my doctor in Madison, WI.

But the information on the internet, including what you pointed me to, pre-dates some of the advances available in this newer Cochlear Osia system. My main question is - who can I talk with who has had this system implanted? Because there is no external abutment, and the external processor is held magnetically to the subcutaneous electronics, I wonder how having it affects sleep, showering, use of an Android phone rather than the directly associated I-phone, wearing head coverings, etc.

I have not seen posts on any blog or forum from 2020 or 2021, which are the first years Osia 2 is being used, and would love to hear from someone currently getting used to them.

Hello fellow Wisconsinite!
I’m 66 yoa with somewhat similar issues. While visiting my Doc in Marshfield about loss of hearing in left ear and infections when wearing hearing aid. He suggested to see if I qualified for the Osia system with Medicare paying for most of it depending on supplemental. From there I went to an audiologist for testing. During the testing they hooked me up with a simulator to show me what the system could do for me. It was amazing! They claim over 99% success rate. Well I did qualify and had implant surgery last Wednesday and will have second part on May 7th to see how it works. Surgery went well and after a week of recovery I feel good, only two days of heavy pain pills and now down to Tylenol a couple times a day. Does feel weird having this bulge behind my ear soon to be covered with some grey hair😎 So with that all said I would highly recommend getting tested- nothing lost nothing gained. I actually teared up when they put simulator on as it was amazing. They even had background noise going and I could hear person talking. Best of luck with your journey into hearing again!

I just had my OSIA 2 implant placed a few days ago, with little or no discomfort. My sudden, single sided sensory hearing loss occurred back in mid-2019 due to a work related occurrence. However, while I can understand some “numbness” around the incision site, intrigued as to whether you ever experienced any numbness to the top and rear of your scalp? If so, how long did it last? I see my Neuro-Otologist (surgeon) in about 12-days for my initial post-op visit, and will ask him about it then, but curious if you experienced it in the interim. Thanks

I have numbness on the right side of my face and it affects my right sinus, feels almost like being numbed at the dentist. It’s really more aggravating than the deafness
