I am reaching out to those with DISH
I have recently been diagnosed with DISH and I see that an old discussion was active at one time, but I would like to talk to those who have been living with this disease for a few years and find out how you are doing. My diagnosis was just recently, but when my doctor emailed me about the results of my test for something else, he sent me the symptoms of DISH and it was an instant "OMG" so this is what I have been living with for 20 years and no one told me what it was. 20 years wondering what it was that caused my voice to instantly change, why I can not sing anymore, why my throat hurt, why I would wake up in the middle of the night because I could not swallow. I have tendons and ligaments that have turned to bone and osteoarthritis/ rheumatoid arthritis all through my body and now I find out about DIME, A whole new set of problems with my neck and spine. It is not a fun life, but a painful one.
How are any of you living with your diagnosis?

I am so sorry for what your sister is going through. It is so hard to be in that much pain and really not have a lot that you can do about it. All she can do is the best she can, and employ all the disciplines that she can. I use pain management injections, massage therapy, and my next step is to try acupuncture. I also need to get back in the pool to do a little aqua therapy. Deep water walking, and a little aqua jogging. So much easier to exercise in the water. Prayers to all my DISHies! Sirius🙏
Just wanted to ask all of you with DISH, do any of you feel like you’re having an exacerbation of your disease on a particular day or few days, then you feel a little better again. We are never going to be “perfect” , but feeling like it’s tolerable or dare I say OK is our goal? Right?
I feel like I am in the middle of an exacerbation currently. Insurance won’t pay for shots in my upper back until November. I have them scheduled already. But I feel like it is more than my back really bothering me right now. I have a heel spur on the bottom of my right foot. That feels like I’m walking on a rock every step. I keep trying to stretch the plantar fascia, but it still hurts. I need to see a podiatrist, as I have not seen one in a while. But it feels like everywhere is more painful right now. I guess I was just wondering if others feel that. That some days they are much worse than other days.
I was recently diagnosed with Dysphasgia caused by DISH by my neurologist, Dr. Singh. I recommend him to anyone out there looking for medical support. He has since performed surgery on a bone spur protruding into my throat. My swollowing is improving as I work on my swollow excersizes given to me by my SLP., throat therepist. If DISH is causing you dysphagia 6 you'll need a team.
1. Neurologist
2. LYARANGOLOGIST
(ENT)
3. Throat therepist known as an SLP.
Good luck and God bless you.
I am sorry that you had your dish affect your throat. I know I have read that this can happen but you’re the first I know to have it happen. But I am so glad that you had a great surgeon and great medical team to get you feeling better.
This is a very difficult disease..
I am plagued by both dish and osteoarthritis. I’m waiting to hear from orthopedic about my shoulders. I’m afraid that I could end up having shoulder replacement because of the severity of the osteoarthritis, and I have bone spurs in both shoulders.
Keep healing and I wish you well!🙏
I do have dysphasia after my ACDF c4-c-7 surgery. I’ve been dealing with this for some time after my surgery. It feels like a pressure in my throat and sometimes hard to swallow.
Was the Dysphasgia caused by the surgery?
Do you have a SLP?
Do you have a laryngologist? These people are essential to your care and recuperation.
I’ve had dysphasia for about 3 years already but it has progressed since my surgery. I will look into this with the doctor. Thank you for the information.
Please get examined by both a Neuro surgeon and larangolgist. The sooner the better. Whoever diagnosed your Dysphasgia will write a script for a throat therepist to work with you on your swallow muscles. God bless.
I will. Thank you and God Bless you too.
Please let me know how you are doing. For some reason God has put you in my prayers. I don't know how our why. But you are there.
