Length of Time Between Referral and Visit

Posted by tamip @tamip, Jan 30 6:49am

We live in a small town in Northeast Michigan. They do good work here in the medical community, but things move slowly and the specialist's we need aren't here.
My husband's been ill for months and seems weaker by the day. He's had many procedures, biopsies, tests and scans. His labs are off, he's positive for a histoplasmosis infection and his biopsy is suspicious for lymphoma.
I'm beginning to feel desperate. We see his local pulmonolgist tomorrow to learn what all of the biopsies indicate and hopefully get a referral.
I'm wondering how long it normally is before he can be seen after his referral.
Thank you.

My daughter was referred to Mayo, MN over a week ago. We have not heard from them. The Dr. seemed to think it was important to get in for surgery quick as injury was almost a month ago. I’m worried! Help

@jackie84, I can imagine that you're worried. Did you call the appointment office as @roch suggested? How is your daughter doing?

I have talked to Mayo, my insurance co and the Dr here. I guess we just wait. Everyone seems nice and helpful but the process seems to take time. Her injury happened over a month ago so I’m scared it is taking too long to have a successful surgery outcome, I hope they take that all into account.

Thank you, I did this and hopefully got the ball rolling. I feel like I have talked to so many people and there is always someone else to call. Dr says call Mayo, Mayo say call insurance, insurance says “you should be taken out of this equation and the Dr should be in contact with our provider team” And time marches on……

So I continue to call and check status. Today I was told “I have no idea why she is not in triage already” then he said he was giving file to Drs to review and If I don’t hear anything by next Friday call again. So I guess we just wait some more. Her injury happened on January 27th. Is this normal?

How frustrating, Maybe check again on Tue or Wed to make sure it is being triaged and do not wait another week.

Can I ask what dept you are requesting an appt in?

Orthopedics but will also need to bring in someone for the nerve repair. They are saying orthopedics and sports and possibly neurology.

Following up if you received any updates on referral to Mayo?

We did! Sounds like late in April. They are still trying to set things up.
