That "flipping of the switch" change in your gut sounds like a dietary enzyme problem, based on my body doing the exact same thing several times (with different enzymes deficiencies).
It is a case of "all of a sudden, wham"!
It could be protein or fat enzymes (or carbs) and is easy to check by purchasing a relatively inexpensive pancreatic enzyme supplement.
I use the Pure brand Pancreatic Enzyme Formula based on the good Amazon reviews, but a few other brands of the same get good reviews too.
Dealing with protein and fat digestion is the icing on the cake for me, as my largest deficiency is in the carbohydrate area (and I take other enzymes for that).
I would try the pancreatic enzyme route (even if, like me, you don't have the symptoms of pancreatic insufficiency). Even if it helps a bit, that is something to consider and build on.
Also, I am sure you know that Type 1 Diabetes causes constipation for some. There are several studies on it, posted on the NIH website. So just Google "NIH diabetes constipation" and take a read.

3 ReactionsThanks for the info. I have read that my faulty pancreas that no longer produces insulin, also doesn’t produce proper digestive enzymes. So, I’ll bring that up with my doctors and try those enzymes you mention.
I’ve never heard Type 1 causes constipation, but could be. I’ve had type 1 for over 20 years and have dealt with constipation only since June 2022.
I have switched to a GI doctor that also specializes in the pancreas. Most GIs don't. I have bloodwork scheduled for late March, a CT scan of my abdomen and a special colonscopy that goes into the small intestine.
I recommend you consider a GI with a pancreas speciality.

2 ReactionsCheck Castle and Connolly. They really only list the best doctors and don't make their money from it. I can confirm that this directory should be consulted!
I switch to one with pancreas and IBS specialty. What a difference! Had a CT scan and found my pancreas is just fine but I was diagnosed with NAFLD. This requires a totally different diet that I was on with IBS and more tests are scheduled. You are so correct, you really need to find a gastroenterologist that specializes in what concerns you.

3 ReactionsMany times, this is caused by medications or food sensitivities. WhenI have the problem, I eat sauerkraut, the brined kind. It rebalances the gut.

1 Reaction@cjk ,
I was told to use Miralax every day as well as a glass of Metamucil, which I’ve been doing. I recently stopped the Metamucil, but the Miralax is doing the job! So far, so good. I also haven’t started on the Linzess yet. I need a full day at home to see how it’s going to impact me.
