Has anyone had the 2023 updated Covid shot?
Does anyone have experience with the new booster shot? If so, what has been your experience? My intergrative doctor said the booster shot will be hard on my body right now. She also said getting sick would be the same. Her treatments are helping me, and I'm improving. I don't want a shot to set me back, but also don't want Covid, which would also set me back, plus - well, Covid. I'm trying to decide whether or not to get it. I'm up on all of my shots until now. I've had LC for a year. I would love to hear if anyone has gotten the shot, and how it's affected them.

My wife and I both had our Moderna booster in Nov 2023. This was our 5th Moderna booster. We never had covid until 2/3/24, both tested positive. I had many symptoms including loss of taste and smell for 5 days. Now, almost 3 weeks since positive test, my wife is doing better, just a minor cough. I'm experiencing minor headaches, coughing. Odd part is one day I feel better, next day I am not feeling that well, tired, difficulty getting moving and just blaa. Then, next day feeling better, next day back to not feeling on target. I feel like I get one step forward, then a half step back, then one step forward, etc. Is this sort of normal with covid being almost 3 weeks into this? Hoping this is normal recovery. Any advice would be helpful.
Probably a sign of long COVID. That’s how it was for me. One day better, the next day blah, and maybe ok the next. Till now I don’t feel well everyday, two years out sadly.
@boykin1017 - Thanks for your info and sorry to hear your experiences. If you can recall, were you like this at end of 3 weeks starting 4 weeks? It's like if I do a little too much one day, the next day you are drained, hard to get moving. I'm 74 and this is no picnic, never felt like this before. Wish you well.
@njed Those symptoms are just like PEM (post exertion malaise) which I have suffered from since my November '21 first (and last) booster. When you 'step over your personal line' of activity level the next day or two you pay for it with the symptoms you are having. Mayo teaches moderation and hopefully yours passes in the very near future.
@arichards3 Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear what you are dealing with. I know very little about Covid like this. I have 3 grown adult children, they had covid back in 2022 and they bounced back and returned to work in 10 days with no further issues. Your description on what I'm experiencing is absolutely correct. I need to learn to pace myself and know where to draw the line on each given day. I had things to do Tues and yesterday, paid the price. Your information will better help me understand this. Thanks again.
I’m sorry you are going through this. I had all the Covid shots and all the boosters which have been offered, also seasonal flu and all other recommended vaccines for seniors ( I am 76). I had tested positive for Covid in 2022 but had NO symptoms at all. However after the first & second Covid shots I was ill for about 3 days, with flu like symptoms. I have had no recurring anything. All my shots were from Moderna.
@mydogsbestfriend We also had those flu-like symptoms after the initial vaccine shot in Feb of 2021. Then, 30 days later, we got the 2nd shot, both had hips and knees hurt for 2 days. After that no issues with follow up boosters. What surprised me is we both got Covid after booster mid Nov 2023 and the flu shot. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow, still having the feeling of slightly better one day, not good the following day. Headache, eyes hurt, coughing, sluggish. Hope this clears up soon.
I do hope you are better soon. I’m wondering did you get Pfizer or Moderna ? Mine were all Moderna. I have had no reactions. However now dealing with either a badly strained muscle or hernia. Just always something when you get old. Hang in there 👍
All of ours were Moderna. You're right, always something. We are in our mid 70's. This is odd, my wife felt good a week after initial positive test, she had a mild case and today is 3 weeks for me. Even today, it feels like I'm about to come down with something like the flu and I don't. Yes, hanging in.
I have had the latest shot, and like most people had no side effects.
