Problems sterilizing pulmonary hygiene equipment

Hi @jeanarizona - perhaps you have disposable nebulizer cups instead of reusable nebulizer cups? There are 2 types that I alternate that can be boiled (linking to a site but there are many places that offer them online without a prescription.) Save your disposable nebulizers for travel.

I use these nebulizers with the Ombra compressor. This setup allows me to use the aerobika inline (at the same time) with the nebulizer. Saves some time. This setup is recommended by National Jewish Hospital, a leading respiratory hospital that takes care of bronchiectasis/MAC patients. I'm sure others will weigh in with their preferred equipment.

I believe there is a spacer from Pari that can be boiled or put in a baby bottle sterilizer and dryer.

I use the Ombra compressor and Aeroeclipse nebulizing cups as well. However, if you have a less powerful compressor, you might not want to use the Aeroeclipse cup because it requires more power and might burn out your compressor. In that situation, I would recommend the Pari Sprint cup as it, too, can be boiled or put in a baby bottle sterilizer and a dryer.

Thank you, Linda. I will look into the spacers you recommend. Want to make sure I can sterilize everything I use as, in addition to MAC, I am susceptible to lung infections. I have been using an Aeroeclipse nebulizing cup with my compressor and it seems to work well so far. I am intrigued by so many people using the Ombra compressor, its compatibility with the Aeroeclipse, and the fact that it is recommended by Jewish National. I will look closely at it.

Thank you so much, @scoop! I so appreciate your advice and thought I responded to you last night (but can’t find the reply now). I have ordered 3 more Aeroeclipse nebulizer cups and another Aerobika. I like the idea of using a system that combines nebulizing and using the Aerobika. I appreciate your links and suggestions use disposable nebulizer cups for travel. I have an upcoming trip to Africa and will need to get a battery operated compressor and disposable cups for it.

Jean, after several missteps, I have resorted to sterilizing my Aero Chamber in 70% isopropyl alcohol weekly. This will work for the Aerobika as well, and with the disposable cups you will be covered. I personally would wash (in Dawn and bottled water) and reuse the disposable cups for 3-4 days each.
That should cover you for the trip. My life is "on the road again" - we travel regularly between 2 residences, camping and hoteling in between, so I always look for "easy but safe." Last year I was only wheels down in my "permanent" residence for about 120 days.

I've been giving consideration for myself and all us "lung" people needing to travel. I've been thinking that we all have different preferences or needs for our various equipment, many of which require electricity. Lately, I've been wondering about a portable power source to take instead of purchasing another set of equipment to deal with. That way, power would be available for whatever was used. You could plug in your nebulizer, charge your vest, plug in your baby bottle sterilizer etc. Some units are quite small for the power they provide and could be a backup for loss of power due to storms, etc. Thoughts?

Hi Linda Are there disposable Aeroeclipse nebulizing cups that can be used with the Aerobika? Right now I use the Park Trek portable with the Aerobika and the Aeroeclipse nebulizing cups. Thank you.

There are disposable Aeroeclipse cups that are intended for one week use. Pretty much for a hospital setting. However, the Aeroeclipse XL have a green tint and can be put in a baby bottle steam sterilizer or boiled. The manufacturer doesn’t recommend using their cup with other compressors that are less powerful as they require extra power and can burn that compressor out. Also, I find nebulizing can take a longer time if you’re using a less powerful compressor. The company recommends trying to stay within the same system it was manufactured for. In the case of the Aeroeclipse, it is the Ombra. For the Pari Trek S it is the Sprint cup. The Sprint cup can withstand high heat similar to the Aeroeclipse.
