It’s different for everyone. The rule of thumb that I’ve heard others mention is that Lupron (in my case Eligard) will remain in the body (and suppressing testosterone) for about as many more months as the injections were for. That actually happened in my case.
I had two 3-month injections, the 1st on 14 April 2021; the 2nd (& final) on 9 July 2021. My testosterone went as low as 3.0 ng/dL on 16 September 2021 (PSA down to < 0.008 ng/mL). My testosterone didn’t return to normal until my 25 February 2022 test - about 7 months after that 2nd (& final) 3-month injection.
My PSA started to slowly increase at that point, now varying between 0.3-0.5 ng/mL. At my most recent PSA test 3 weeks ago, my PSA was 0.43 ng/mL. Everything going as planned (so far).

How long you were on ADT, how old you are...I can only relate my experience. I did triplet therapy starting in Jan 17 (see my attached clinical history). Last Lupron shot was May 18, it was 90 day shot so by August it began "clearing" my system. By October, T was 135, by February 19, 400+ and before we went back on treatment in Apr 23, 600+.
If you've done a literature search, there are some statistics that say nearly 80% of men do not recover T, yikes!
Why did I, we may never know. One thing I think may have been a factor is I am pretty active. Most days I go to the gym, indoor bike, weights swim, other days I ride my 25-50 miles. I ski, hike, do the gardening. Exercise may play a role in T recovery.
I have seven weeks left on this go round of 12 months of Orgovyx, we'll see what happens then.

Thank you for a topic that I am monitoring and interested in others outcomes.. I have discovered that everyone has a different journey with prostate cancer treatment.
To your question:
I completed 2 years of Lupron and have just been on a 7 month holiday .. my psa is undetectable still HOWEVER my testosterone still remains very low…I am grateful for the treatment plan I am on and would take Lupron again…stay active.. I walk, golf and go to the gym 4 days a week
Dear Kujhawk1978,
I was an elementary school physical educator who was very interested in the P.E. research concerning cross lateral movements, hamstring and quadracep muscular strength and muscular endurance engagement and the brain pathways and their relationship to reading comprehension. I have never studied the peer reviewed research literature concerning adult males and Testesterone levels and engagement of the Hamstrings and Quadraceps and the possible impact of such aerobic and anerobic exercise upon those Testesterone levels. I must say, I am too old, slow, and worn out to follow this intellectual inquiry, but perhaps one of you gentlemen or your loved one would spend some time looking into the question.
I am happy for you; that you can push your body and enjoy the sights and soumds not only of Nature as you travel through it, but the pulse of your heart as you push it through your exertion levels, the heavy and rapid breathing as you push yourself over steeper terrain and the joy in the accomplishment when completing your physical activity hopefully, daily. You and your experience would suggest that their may be a correlation between long periods of aerobic exercise involving the hamstring and quadracep muscles and an increase in male testesterone for prostate cancer survivors who have used Lupron as a method of ADT (Androgen Deprivation Therapy). Congratulations on your journey to vitality and vigor; I am most happy for you and the hope of possibility it illuminates for many of us. God Bless you all.
I was taken off of lupron and Erleada 15 months ago. My T is just under 100 and PSA is .01. I am happy with these numbers. Gleason 9, CR, post robo surgery, 77 years.

they check me every 3 months and they have been doing that for 30 months In the clinical trial that I am in I am expecting EFS (event free survival) for 41 months since I began the trial 30 months ago
@komurph, I suspect the answer is "it depends" and the "everyone is different".
Here are a couple of related discussions:
- No testosterone on Lupron, can I build muscle strength by working out?
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/no-testosterone-and-ability-to-build-strength/
- Testosterone check after Radiation and lupron

What side effects of low testosterone are particularly challenging at the moment?

Thank you!
Thank you!
