I need help with Cobalt Toxicity
My brother had a hip replacement in 2011 and now has cognitive decline! His prosthetic was recalled in 2015 for cognitive decline! Neither the company Zimmer nor the surgeon notified him!
His blood tests show very high cobalt! Who can he see to help them navigate this horrible situation!

I do not have experience with this but I do have experience detoxing my body from metals common in our bodies as well as detoxing from mold. My doctor recommended epsom salt baths and infrared sauna. Epsom salts help pull the metals and infrared sauna sweating is an excellent way as well. I did both a combination of one of these 2-3 times a week.
Best to all of you.
Thank you!
The human body will "detox" chromium and cobalt naturally, eliminating them through the liver and kidneys, as soon as the metal source is removed from the body. Epsom salts and other materials live activated charcoal have no effect on chromium and cobalt in the body.

Hi gigi4 you had mentioned on an other group about your doctor testing you for your digestive cell that they were hypertrophic enlarged. Who is your doctor which state. My doctor put me on high ppi on I'm still having acid reflux .I'm sick all the time I really feel I'm getting acid rebound because my cells are producing more acid. I don't know how to private message you do you know how to private Message me . I really need help of a good doctor.
If anyone can tell me how to private message someone. That would be wonderful my health has been horrible sine Nov and my doctors just want me to stay on the high dose of ppi and I'm so sick every day with stomach pains. And they ran all test ct scan ,Ultra sounds lots of blood test colonoscopy endoscopy biopsy hilda test and all is normal . does any one have advice
Would chelation therapy not be an acceptable option along WITH removal of metal on metal joint products?
Chelation is not particularly effective for either chromium or cobalt, and the chelating agents can cause their own side effects. With normal or near-normal kidney and liver function, once the source is removed the levels begin to fall. Typically 6-9 months later, they ar withing normal range.

1 ReactionMy husband has gone through a very similar situation. He had his hip replaced in 2002. Initially he did not have problems. By 2010 he began to have pelvic floor issues with extreme pain and dysfunction. After looking extensively online, he surmised that it had to do with the hip replacement. He believes that he had pudendal nerve entrapment, but was never verified if that was the cause. His cobalt and chromium levels were not elevated so the surgeon refused to replace the hip joint despite the fact that the artificial hip joint had been recalled. That didn't seem to be of any consequence to the surgeon. He had his cobalt and chromium levels tested several times and they were never elevated. In the ensuing years, he began to have cognitive issues and by 2024 was diagnosed with dementia. His memory continues to decline. I think we should revisit this possible cause of his dementia.
@rwegner I'm very sorry that your husband has fallen victim to dementia, it ia a cruel disease. But perhaps his dementia has a different cause?
Depending on the reports one finds, the elevated metal ions (chromium and cobalt) from excessive wear occur in 40-50% of people with the recalled implants. There are thousands of people who have them and do not get metallosis. There are a lot of theories, including angle of placement, thickness of the coating (the very small ones like I had were thinner, and a higher percentage failed) and how each person's body chemistry contributed to the breakdown. With competent testing, any deterioration is detected. If he was tested several times, and showed no elevation, it is unlikely that the hip implants caused his dementia.
Some day science and medicine are going to find the cause!
