Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old

Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

I am on lowest dose of estradiol patch. It is beneficial. I am 80, do not intend to stop ever. Risk is small for me for adverse anything. On HRT for 30 years now.

I started HRT with after Manapause, age 47. I just went off HRT (age 74) because I was diagnosed with Stage 1A breast cancer, I had a lumpectomy. The Oncologist said that the pathology report was good in many ways & included ER (Estrogen) & PR (progesteron) positive, meaning I had plenty of receptors for the drugs I'm taking to take hold. However, those receptors also absorb estrogen which hinders treatment. The oncologist said she didn't think HRT caused the cancer, it was, maybe it maybe it didn't. I'm not even close to a Dr., but if I were you I would NOT take hrt unless you've been on it since the beginning of menopause. Good Luck, You'll be fine. PS I've read that taking HRT at menopause or not more than 10 years after that is fine. HRT was wonderful for me, plus I'm about 2" taller than my friends & my bone density is great, per DeXA scan. Plus, no hot flashes, until I went off cold Turkey (so don't do that), sex was great until I went off HRT. Remember, some doctors believe in HRT some do not. It's frutrating.

Hi
I was't sure I understood, so hope I can ask you a few questions.
DCIS isn't cancer yet, right? My pathology was PR & ER positive & my lobular cancer is LCIS, classic type., therefore on of the reasons I was told to stop all HRT. I'm now on Letrozol to hopefully stave off the recurrence of cancer in my life.
I'm glad you're going to the cancer clinic, be sure to mention you're using vagifem, just to be sure it's okay.

I started my HRT replacement in my late sixty’s and have never regretted it for nine moment. My joints hurt much less, my skin looks good and I have a much healthier sex drive. Enjoy and feel better. 😊

I wished now that I didn’t go off HRT when I was in my early 50’s. Starting again at 75 is very late, I’m doing an experiment to help other so if all is good or not I can voice my thoughts

How does that work? I thought you had to start HRT within 10 years of menopause….or is that what you did? I think I’m a little over 10 years. Sigh….

I started HRT AT 67 years of age, 10 years after menopause. I am currently 70 years old. My primary care doctor approved….said her 80 something year old mother was on some form of it. I have had two other doctors disapprove, my gyn and a VA doc. Like my primary care doc says, it’s a personal decision and one must weight pros and cons. The 2002 study that denounced HRT was supposedly flawed. I just know for me potential benefits outweigh potential risks. I have an older sister w Alzheimer’s and HRT is good for the brain. I am also very physically active…Pilates 5-6 times per week and cycling w groups 100-150 miles per week on average…having more energy helps my being active. I get a Biote pellet inserted every 4 months.

My cardiologist actually wants me back on bioidentical hormones as I completely lack estrogen, testosterone. I’m 71 and he has done extensive research on hormone replacement for older women and feels strongly that I will benefit in many ways with bone strength, heart health, vaginal health, hair, skin, nails, fatigue and mood swings. I inject Tymlos daily for severe osteoporosis and have had marked improvement in my bone density but he feels that it is important to not be hormone depleted as I am. He can determine the dosage amount which he says will start with a lower dose of each of the hormones that I need. I’m very active but don’t always feel great. I need a boost of something and am praying these hormones will improve my quality of life.
