Chronic Post nosal drip Complication

Posted by anna17X0X @anna17xox, Jan 20 10:29pm

hello , I have had post nasal drip for a couple years now it started since I was around 14 or 13 I think back in 2018 around the time of the Covid -19 outbreak. I'm now 17,And I don't know how I developed it or why I developed it it just somehow happened to me. And I have seen my doctor about it, I've tried nasal sprays ,saline solutions as recommended but they only provide a temporary solution. They don't really help as much I notice the symptoms will ease up for while but come back after a while. I even drink plenty of water and warm fluids to thin out the mucus. But It seems like it never goes away no matter what I do. My doctor told me what I think the cause is and honestly I don't know and I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this and don't think it's allergies but it could be. But I do notice my post nasal drip gets worst during cold seasons, so that's when I usually use nasal sprays the most. I think it even causes my brain to feel a little fuzzy sometimes, and can give me headaches .Sometimes I'll try to spit the mucus out to keep it from congesting my throat but it causes a metallic taste and unpleasant odor in my mouth . So I sometimes swallow it to avoid that, and frankly im just so sick of it .I think I might have some kind of sinus or bacterial infection I don't know what's wrong with my nose. I want to consult with my doctor about other treatment options but my mom thinks I'm overreacting and that it'll go away on it's own. But it hasn't, it's been years since I have had this problem and I desperately want it to go away .Right now seeing a doctor isn't really an option because my mom doesn't think it's that bad and refuses to schedule an appointment for me. I don't know what to do I'm thinking about going back to using nasal irrigation once a day because I only used it once the first time I tried it. Didn't see much of a difference so this time I'll try using it once a day and also consider getting a humidifier. But apart from that I really think I need some serious medical treatments because this has been plaguing me for way too long and right now my head feels uneasy from swallowing this mucus And please if you also suffer from Chronic Post nasal drip ,and have may have a clue as to what's causing it and what treatments or remedies you use that might work for me please let me know ,I would really appreciate it.

You are not alone. After Covid i have been plagued with the same thing and many of my friends are too. At night i raise my bed snd use s humidifier next to me. If i wake up coughing and it wont stop draining i take Robitussin cough syrup. Something that works. I also dust my bedroom frequently especially under and around my bed. So little is known about Covid and it’s frustrating! Talk to your mom again and see an allergist. Good luck!

is that the same as a neti pot. i don't like the neti pot because they don't force the water through hard enough like the squeeze bottle i get with the NeilMed kit. i can control the pressure.
also you're supposed to use distilled water to cut down the contaminants in tap water.

Thank you for your advise I will try to see if my mom can get me to go see an ENT ,as well as trying out the nasal spray .I also have a question for you,if you dont mind me asking, how long have you had nasal drip for ?

I had postnasal drip for years and sometimes sinus pain but no infection. I would go really slow and some of the powerful things people recommend. The doctor told me to use saline rinses like netti pot, to take allergy pills and prednisone spray. After doing this for a few weeks, my eustachian tube valves shut down and over a year later they are still shut down. You are very young to do anything extreme, I suggest getting rid of dust and old paper products, and to avoid smoke if someone in your house smokes. I stopped using so many dairy products which helped. I drink hot tea at times and also coffee with non-dairy creamer. I also got cough drops, and that seems to really help.

Hello, thank you I'll take your advise and I noticed you said " had" postnasal drip for years, does that mean you don't have it anymore or do you still have it ?

Sometimes when it’s cold, or if I eat a lot of dairy like ice cream, milk or cheese, I get more of that goop in my sinuses and throat. Spicy food makes it feel better, less stuck, and I have to cough less. Some vegetables seem to irritate it like green peppers and even lettuce. I always have menthol cough drops around. I like the cherry flavor, and the any brand is just fine. Something about menthol seems to help. I got rid of some curtains in my house because they just were too old and seemed to collect dust. The material made them too hard to keep clean. That really helped. I think every person might be different. Notice which seems to bug you the most . Good luck to you!

Do you use the Neilmed squeezie? If so, where did you buy it? I have seen a few places on the internet, but not many. Thanks! Donna
