How soon does one secure lodging for a 3 month stay? Mayo Rochester
Tentative date is late March, prefer a home atmosphere, looking at Covered by Faith rentals. I don't want to wait too long or do people secure lodging once have a date? Who can assist you with this process?

@bevprescott, I would suggest that you contact (I prefer phone call) the Rental company that you are considering and have a chat with them about their policy. My personal thought is to make a reservation as soon as you know a date.
My husband and I stayed at the Gift of Life House when I had my liver and kidney transplant. We did not have the option of reserving a room (not their policy) and I had a deceased donor that could not be scheduled in advance. I was admitted directly to Rochester Methodist from Kentucky, and my husband made a hotel reservation for himself while while I was prepared for medical flight. He was very lucky that a room was available for him at GOL on 2nd day there. He stayed there until I was able to join him.
Have you considered contacting your coordinator or team social worker about what other patients have done?
I’d consider Broadway Plaza hotel. Rooms have full kitchen, dining area, and living room. About the same cost as a hotel. Connected to the clinic by skyway.
Hi
Do they accept small dog, 2 beds ? I'm single, so caregivers need own bed.
I believe it was pet friendly. They have rooms with 2 bed or even 2 bedrooms with kings.

@bevprescott - I just had my liver transplant at the end of Dec 2023, and we wondered the same before getting the call.
We ended up staying at the "TownePlace Suites Rochester Mayo Clinic Area". I'm not comfortable doing Airbnb/VRBO rentals, so the extended stay hotels were what we looked at. It's not the cheapest option, but it didn't break the bank either. Try calling them directly and telling them your a Mayo clinic patient - some hotels will give you a discounted price if you talk to a manager when booking.
Also, check if your insurance has a reimbursement for travel expenses related to transplant. Suprisingly, mine had a $10k lifetime max benefit for hotel stays, car mileage & parking fees that I could submit. It was a very hidden process that I had to mail in paper receipts and fill out a paper form that looked like it was a crappy 6th or 7th generation copy of a copy of a copy that someone had gotten from a past coworker who retired in the 90's. Anyway, it worked and I got a partial reimbursement (max of $50/day) for hotel costs, which didn't cover all my costs, but was far better than nothing! It's worth calling your insurance co to ask, just in case!
We stay at Towne Place for shorter stays. They have some 2 bedroom suites for longer stays. Also close to the clinic. She’s right about insurance. My Humana plan covered the entire cost of our 1 month stay at Broadway Plaza.
I stayed at the Gift inn of Life house when I had my transplant. It was a great environment to be in post transplant because you were around so many people that were in similar circumstances as you are. When I was there they had a program that if they were full they would help you find a hotel until space open up in one of there houses not sure if they still do that
Hi
Thanks for information. My insurance will pay up to $125 a day. I'm just not sure a hotel is a right fit for me. And if family visits.
I also had the $10,000 coverage for lodging, gas and parking. It was great. I rented an Airbnb for the 4 weeks that I was told to plan on. It was a perfect answer for us since my daughter was the donor. We had family members that took turns being a caregiver for both of us. We had about a 15 minute drive into Mayo.
@bevprescott, how are you doing with finding long-stay accommodation? Do you know about Mayo Clinic's free Concierge Services? They can help make recommendations suited to your requirements. It's worth contacting them if you haven't already.
