I have had a scab in my left nostril for years.
I have had a scab in my left nostril for years. When the scab comes out there is bright red blood that I dab a few times and it stops. I had seen online someplace cases of numbers of people all with the same affliction. They said that the scab was some form of an infection and they had received many suggestions from doctors about just leaving the scab alone so it won't bleed or giving them medications that do not work or cause the person unpleasant side effects. Mind you, this is not BSC but some thing that fastened onto the cartilage of the nose and is a hard thing to eradicate. I tried Essential oils and used Tea Tree Oil and also Cleavers which I put on a cotton ball and put it in on my nose cartilage for an hour. Cleavers does not have a pleasant smell refreshing as do my other oils and it is a dark color but it is supposed to do the trick. Cleavers did help and the scab in smaller and does not clog the nose as some people complained of. I know it is something requiring an antibiotic to cure. It is some form of herpes simplex I feel. I know "bugs" of that sort love the lining of the nose and that there are many blood vessels ready to bleed if disturbed by this whatever it is called. I would love anyone's input who has encountered the same thing.
Thank you people.
I am a healthy ninety except for ankylosing spondylitis and wet macular

@carliann - Welcome to Mayo Connect! Sores in the nose is not that common- therefore confusing.
It could be an bacterial infection that children often get around mouth and face- strep or staph. It could also be viral of course. There could be an associated sore throat.
Your first step would be to go to your primary care physician for an exam of the sores. If no diagnosis is found you should see an ENT specialist.

Hello @ylee1963, Welcome to Connect, It looks like no one responded to your post from April 7th, 2020. I was wondering if you have seen a doctor or found out what has been causing the irritation in your nose?
@carliann Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, a place to give and get support.
You have sores inside your nose, you are concerned, and you are looking for answers and help.
You will notice that I moved your discussion from the COVID-19 group to the ENT group. I did this so you could connect with members like @ylee1963 @achillies @nrd1 @alaethia that may be able to support you. You may wish to scroll through the past posts for suggestions.

Connect members, mentors, and staff are not qualified to give medical advise. You should seek medical attention from your provider. You may want to call your primary care office and ask to speak to a triage nurse. The triage nurse may be able to ease your mind and offer suggestions regarding your symptoms or they should be able to assist you being seen right away, if deemed necessary.
Due to it being the weekend, I'm wondering if your hospital system has a 24/7 nurse hotline or if the hospital system has an online portal where you can contact your primary care office?
I saw my regular Dr. He mentioned a cancer concern. So he sent me to the ENT. The ENT didn't seem too concerned about cancer. ENT found an unusually large vein in my nose. ENT cauterized my nose. The full out nosebleeds have stopped. I still get light scabbing which the ENT said may happen. He gave me an RX for the scabbing and just told me to use as needed. If the issue got too problematic he told me to come back. But since there's no more bleeding and the scabs are just light blood and don't really bother me I haven't felt any need to go back. Nothing has really changed since I went to the Dr about a year ago.
@carliann. Sorry for the problem you are having, we are not medical professionals here at Mayo connect. I recommend you call your doctor as soon as possible to get a diagnosis. There are alot of misinformation on the internet and it's not safe to rely on that for diagnosis and treatment. You said it's been a month since you have this issue so make sure your doctor know about it too.
@carliann, Ouch! That would be upsetting not to mention uncomfortable to say the least! I know the discomfort of having cold sores on my lips but nothing like you describe in the nose. Would your doc agree to a phone visit to see if you need perhaps a prescription by phone if you are concerned about an inpatient visit to the office/lab at this time? Hope you find relief and healing soon!
@smacky311 Welcome back to Mayo Clinic Connect.
It's good the doctor was able to take care of the majority of the issue and you do not have nosebleeds anymore.
Did the doctor say why the scabbing persists?
Yes......it was impetigo! It cleared up with Mupirocin ointment and it is finally gone!
Thanks for checking back I appreciate your help! It is gone now and I’m so happy
@trudyjane74 I'd like to extend my welcome back to Mayo Clinic Connect.
