I have had a scab in my left nostril for years.
I have had a scab in my left nostril for years. When the scab comes out there is bright red blood that I dab a few times and it stops. I had seen online someplace cases of numbers of people all with the same affliction. They said that the scab was some form of an infection and they had received many suggestions from doctors about just leaving the scab alone so it won't bleed or giving them medications that do not work or cause the person unpleasant side effects. Mind you, this is not BSC but some thing that fastened onto the cartilage of the nose and is a hard thing to eradicate. I tried Essential oils and used Tea Tree Oil and also Cleavers which I put on a cotton ball and put it in on my nose cartilage for an hour. Cleavers does not have a pleasant smell refreshing as do my other oils and it is a dark color but it is supposed to do the trick. Cleavers did help and the scab in smaller and does not clog the nose as some people complained of. I know it is something requiring an antibiotic to cure. It is some form of herpes simplex I feel. I know "bugs" of that sort love the lining of the nose and that there are many blood vessels ready to bleed if disturbed by this whatever it is called. I would love anyone's input who has encountered the same thing.
Thank you people.
I am a healthy ninety except for ankylosing spondylitis and wet macular

I have a fairly rare incurable vascular disease called Wegeners Granulamatosis (GPA) which sometimes manifests itself in the nose. It can also affect the lungs and kidneys. Large scabs appear in the nostrils and with any pressure will bleed. I had scabs 2" long removed by my ENT. I see him regularly for ear infections, insert tubes, blockages that affect my hearing, etc. If untreated it can be fatal. I see a rheumotologist every 3 mo and blood tests to insure it stays in check. The disease appeared to have starved the blood flow to the nerves in my feet and hands causing neuropathy pain. I don't know if this is what you are dealing with but I hope it helps. Took me over 2 years, 40 doctors, and dozens of ER visits before going to a Mayo rhemotologist who had other patients with the same symptoms to diagnose me.
Thank you bobsconnect. I haven't been keeping up with discussions and just found your reply to my query about nose scabs. I do not have my doctor investigate the nose scabs. I just clean out the scabs and do it each time the scabs clog my nostril. I am 90 years old now and had removal of BC lesion on my right nostril. It was a tiny thing that looked like a tiny scratch, but the BC went very deep and I have a part of the nostril very thin where the BC lesion was. I am not going to open up my nose and remove parts or all of it if it is more BC. What did your doctor specifically say about your nose scabs or did he say that it was a sure sign of Wegener's GPA?
You might try a product called AYR--- comes in a tiny tube - it is a clear
gel that keeps your nostrils moist inside so they do not scab over. It

takes very little and after a few days you can stop - because hopefully your
own system may begin to keep the area moist on it's own. Hope this helps.

I have had a scab in my nose for years as well. I have been to the ENT many times over the years including a sinus surgery. I have tried essential oils and it's not working. I had a biopsy many years ago. Worried about cancer. It scabs within 48 hours after sloughing off. Any suggestions? I do have MRSA.
I am having the same problem! It is absolutely terrible! I suspect that my allergy medication may be a contributing factor. Do you take allergy meds or decongestants?
I have it in both of my nostril and they do block my nose, I have to try and open up so I can breath. Then my nose starts to bleed and it is really hard to stop and by the time it stops they are blocked back up right away it is a nightmare and it is 24-24. Doctors don't have a clue. The funny thing is my nose is always dripping not just blood but nasel fluid also sorry for the spelling. If anyone finds out anything please let me know. Thanks
I thought I was the only one!! I saw an ENT years ago and his explanation was that I was blowing my nose wrong. Seriously???! Mine has been going on for about 7 years, but seems to have gotten worse over the last 6-8 months. I don't see where anyone on here has really gotten an answer. Is that correct?
I too have been plagued by the nose sore, just in one nostril. I ended up with a MRSA infection after endometrial cancer surgery and since, the sore lives on. I get some relief by alternating Carmex and an antibiotic OTC ointment, it seems if I can keep it somewhat moisturized, it feels a little better. I understand what others say about the bleed---if it does, it is fast & profuse, literally running out of my nose like a faucet. If I do remove the scab, it must directly correlate to my sinuses because my teeth hurt immediately. I also have rheumatoid arthritis (JRA since I was 6), so-- maybe someone can make the correlation between autoimmune diseases and this annoyance!
I have had a problem with an ulcer in my left nostril for many years. I have used saline sprays and naseptin cream to soften the crusting. I had it cauterised a couple of years ago but it just comes back and the resulting scab interferes with my breathing (I also have asthma which doesn't help). In addition, I was informed a long time back that I also have a deviated septum. To cut a long story short, after a year's wait, I had an operation on Wednesday 8th May for what I thought was was going to be a biopsy on the ulcer and to rectify the deviated septum. My discharge notes say that I have had an Excision of lesion of nasal septum. I am confused over what exactly has been done and the discharging nurse wasn't able to answer my questions, which are: has the deviated septum been rectified, or have they just cut out the ulcer? Thank you for reading. Incidentally, I live in the UK.
@jantinesco Talk to your surgeon to find out what they did. After I had my blood vessel cauterized I get scabs in nose Dr told me to put Vaseline in nostrils
