Burr Hole Encephalomalacia
Is Encephalomalacia and scarring the same thing?
My recent MRI has this Impression from all findings:
Small area of high left parietal burr hole seen encephalomalacia. There clearly is a white spot in that location on the imaging.
I have never had any type of surgery on my head, so there is no burr hole. I’ve researched Encephalomalacia, and understand it is softening of brain tissue.
A neurologist informed me that Encephalomalacia is scarring not softening of the tissue. And it is from the injury I suffered some years ago, and is not causing any symptoms of my TBI.

My last 2 MRIs showed Encephalomalacia deep under the closure device from my craniotomy of April 2022. From what I read on Mayo Clinic’s website, it scares me very much. I guess I hope the new neurologist that I’ll see will say scarring not encephalomalacia? If that is less debilitating?
