Long Term Covid Related Loss of Smell

In November 2020, I woke up to find that I had lost my sense of smell.
It had been normal the night before. I called a physician friend and he said that I should be tested for Covid because smell loss was a classic symptom. I was tested a few days later and tested positive. I subsequently received both Moderna vaccines once they became available. I have tried olfactory training, but so far my smell has not returned after 39 months. Has anyone had success in treating this disorder?

I lost my sense of smell after functional sinus surgery. I saw Dr Zara Patel at Stanford who did a series of 3 PRP (protein rich plasma) into my olfactory center — high up inside the nose. My sense of smell now comes and goes depending on how swollen the tissue is in my nose (I’ve had 3 years of complications since my surgery). I was able to taste cheese a few months ago and I almost cried with joy.

I lost my sense of smell after functional sinus surgery. I saw Dr Zara Patel at Stanford who did a series of 3 PRP (protein rich plasma) into my olfactory center — high up inside the nose. Hi Wendy. I watched that treatment on You Tube and the results were impressive. Unfortunately, I live in Indiana, but I have an appointment with the chairman of the Indiana University Medical School Otolaryngology Dept in March so I will ask him about this. Thanks and good luck to you.

I know she’s teaching other doctors to do the procedure. Also, I did day trips from Colorado to get my shots. She has many out-of-state patients. Best of luck to you.
