Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old

Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

I had a uti that wasn’t really a uti. I was referred to a uro-gynecologist who prescribed estrogen cream and pelvic floor PT.
This has fixed the problem. If I slack off with the estrogen, the uti symptoms return.

Where did you get pelvic floor instruction?

I haven’t had a UTI or yeast infection in several years, which is shocking. No bladder problems either. However, I want to prevent them. Most all of my friends are up peeing several times per night. They seem content to do nothing about it! I don’t understand. And most every woman I know over 60 keeps UTIs. So, I was doing research when I ran across the estradiol information. At first, I didn’t realize I needed it, but I definitely see a difference now. Now on to the exercises.

The urogynecologist referred me to a PT clinic that had a pelvic floor PT. She specializes in that.

Ive been trying to wean myself off HRT but at 65 every time I try I get terrible sweating, feel hot, can’t sleep. Not sure what to do about it,some doctors want me completely off , my gynecologist says low dose ok.

The way my doctor explained it, is that locally applied Estradiol to the vagina has a different impact on the body than oral HRT. That was my understanding and it suppoted the videos I had seen by female urologists online. My readings seemed to indicate that the locally applied estrogen may not be enough to address symptoms like hot flashes. I’m interested in oral HRT and will explore it further. Based on what some of these urologists and gynecologists are saying about pelvic atrophy, I want to be proactive.

I use an HRT daily and have for about 7 years now. I am currently 73. My joints feel better, my energy level is better on it than off.

Hi
My father had polymyagia rheumatic His rheumatologist put him on a very low dose prednisone and it made a huge difference. He has now passed but it did give him back his quality of life.
I wish you well.

I started HRT with after Manapause, age 47. I just went off HRT (age 74) because I was diagnosed with Stage 1A breast cancer, I had a lumpectomy. The Oncologist said that the pathology report was good in many ways & included ER (Estrogen) & PR (progesteron) positive, meaning I had plenty of receptors for the drugs I'm taking to take hold. However, those receptors also absorb estrogen which hinders treatment. The oncologist said she didn't think HRT caused the cancer, it was, maybe it maybe it didn't. I'm not even close to a Dr., but if I were you I would NOT take hrt unless you've been on it since the beginning of menopause. Good Luck, You'll be fine. PS I've read that taking HRT at menopause or not more than 10 years after that is fine. HRT was wonderful for me, plus I'm about 2" taller than my friends & my bone density is great, per DeXA scan. Plus, no hot flashes, until I went off cold Turkey (so don't do that), sex was great until I went off HRT. Remember, some doctors believe in HRT some do not. It's frutrating.

The patch is absorbed straight into the body and does not have to be digested. There is no increased risk of clot or stroke using transdermal estrogen, at standard doses. It's the safest method in my Dr's. opinion. He's a strong proponent of HRT, hard to find. Unfortunately, he retired.

I think a low dose is the right decision, especially if you've tried weaning. And, I'm saying a very low dose. OR, can us just stay on a low dose of Premarin vaginal Cream? I don't know
