Unilateral aesthetic flat or reconstruct one side w/ autologous tissue
I am struggling with this choice - has anyone had a single side reconstructed w/ autologous flesh - is it a symmetrical outcome - or not worth the trouble ...?

I can’t answer your question, but just met with Plastic surgeon yesterday and am planning SMX with DIEP and fat grafting on contralateral side for as much symmetry as possible. Though long and hard on this decision. I just want the cancerous breast gone. All I ask is that the other one sort of match the reconstructed one as much as feasible.
Following: Looking for the same answers. Looking to explant unilateral “boob” due to toxicity concerns . Would like some semblance of a mound . Researching local Fat transfer ( not DIEP).
I am leaning toward unilateral and just going flat on that side - this cancer is a recurance after 5.5 years and it seems mastectomy is the recommendation .... but reconstruction talks are off-putting
Bilateral symmetry is overrated. Do whatever makes you feel good.
I had unilateral surgery 2 years ago. Opted for no reconstruction. I have a breast prosthesis for when my clothing choice calls for it. When at home I don’t use prosthesis. You should do whatever you are comfortable doing. I felt like I had enough to deal with after surgery-drains, lymphedema, radiation, chemo.
Agreed - I think i will go flat ... where have you found good bras w/ pockets and prosthesis?
I like the front closing bras from ABC (American Breast Care). I was measured and had fitting by professional and surprised that bra size and prosthesis very different from what I wore prior to surgery. I was given soft cotton form and vest prior to leaving hospital until healed well enough.
