Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old

Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

I have been using HRT since I was forty when I had my ovaries, uterus and cervix removed. I am now seventy seven. I did stop for a while and then had continual bladder infections. When I went back on HRT the infections stopped. I recommend HRT.

Can you say why you think HRT will improve your life? I have some reasons that I can think of that may or may not be valid. I’m not opposed to it at all, though I know there are risks. I would consider it. I’m 8 years post menopause and thought it was too late for me. I just started local Estradiol a few months ago and love it! I can’t believe I had to find it on my own.

Have you discussed it with your doctors and what have they advised?

I’ll look forward to seeing how it goes. Please post about it. Best of luck with it.

For a long time I was advised not to use HRT therapy due to high estrogen levels in my family resulting in breast cancer in 3 of the 5 females in my family. Some suffered with the uncomfortableness of that decision, however, at 68 I opt for a better quality of life in post menopausal stage and 68 yrs of age and glad I did.

What type of HRT did you decide on?

Estradiol vagina tabs lowest dosage once week as recommended by female ob/gyn. At this stage of my life, there is no reason why I need to be so uncomfortable.

@celia16 Not sure what you mean by local Estradiol. Mine is a prescription, but I think there is a cream version. Best to discuss various options with your doctor.

I use estradiol cream and it has made a tremendous difference in my comfort .
No more dryness. My gyn Dr. told me that vaginas LOVE estrogen.

Yes. That’s been my experience. Lol. Wish I had started using it earlier.

I’m now wondering if I should consider more HRT. I don’t have symptoms, but would like to avoid them.

I guess I kinda got this conversation going. I will respond to some questions in a day or two. I’m very excited seeing so many responses.
