I have c diff
I have recently been diagnosed with c diff. I am currently on vancomycin 125mg four times a day. I have been bleeding for over 2 months now regularly with no solid movements whatsoever. I have urgency in the mornings and have to run to the bathroom only to be issues of blood and coffee ground feces, nothing ever solid. I just had a colonoscopy last Monday if showed diverticulum in the transverse colon and inflammation in the sigmoid colon in four different places. my question is when will I get better?? I have been dealing with this for a long time and it is debilitating. Will the vancomycin give me solid movements and will it stop the blood issues?? I just need to talk to someone who can identify with what I have. I have to call my gastro at the end of the week to let her know how I am doing. if I still have this what will be the next step?? Also, has anyone else with c diff smell an odor on themselves and when they go?? does c diff have a distinctive odor?

Thank you so much!!!
What are all the side effects you all have had from c diff. I’m waiting on my results but I’m pretty sure that’s what I have. I’m so scared that my diverticulitis now gave me that. And I can’t catch a break. 2023 has been hard on me
What all changed for you. I can’t even eat any more or anything
C diff 11 times since 2021 hospitalized quite a few times June 21st I'm having a colonectomy I have no choice or that's my only choice I've been so sick and I had to double dose of fecal transplant in April and it I was a failure just couldn't get rid of that bad bacteria so now I'll be wearing a colostomy bag forever but I won't have the C diff anymore and you get a range of symptoms I was off balance memory loss all kinds of things and I had the two top drugs antibiotics for it and it didn't help so best of luck to you make sure you have a good doctor it really does make a difference I'm 76
I'm sorry to hear you are having so much trouble and the Meds didnt help.
I am afraid I could be getting Cdiff again. Having the symptoms. I told my Daughter yesterday I think I am heading for a Colostomy. Probably the best solution as I cant seem to ever fully get over this. I certainly wish you well on the 21st and beyond, and pray this solves your issues! I am 63.
Hi I’m 24 and for about a month and a half I have been dealing with Cdiff. I had a spinal injury back in 2015 when I was 18 and because of that I have to use a catheter and do my own bowel program to use the restroom. I battle with UTI’s because of that and that’s what caused what the doctors to believe is Cdiff. (Originally they said Colitis) I’m now coming up to the end of my Vancomycin and I still haven’t had a solid stool yet. It’s not diarrhea but is very soft and barely keeps shape. Due to me not being able to use the restroom or being able to feel the need to go to the restroom this has been a big problem. I do not have the ability to pass stool or prevent stool from passing on my own before the Cdiff. So now it’s a constant cycle of me changing clothes and taking a shower to clean myself. It makes extremely difficult to work my 24 hour shifts at the fire department. When I’m not at work, I’m in my room terrified to stand up. So I guess I’m asking if it’s normal to have this type of very soft stool while ending Vancomycin. I have read almost every post and comment on this thread and honestly it has made me worry more. Any thoughts is appreciated.
I’m so sorry to hear, about your troubles. It is such a difficult sickness to go through, physically and mentally. I went through several trials of vanco at first but couldn’t kick the cdiff. It kept recurring. Try eating a low fodmap diet for a few weeks after the vanco and see if that helps making poop more solid. Definitely stay on top of this and get tested again after a few weeks. Cdiff sheds for a while and makes the stools loose. I lived on rice cakes, rice and peanut butter for a long while.
Also, ask your GI about Dificid. That medication saved my life and got rid of the cdiff. I was at toxic levels over and over again for a year and a half with Vancomyacin until I took Dificid. I have read that first line treatment should be Dificid now. I am not sure why vanco is still being prescribed for so many people suffering with cdiff. I think it is insurance and money based. Dificid can be expensive but it works.
Now I have occasional flare ups and the GI calls it post IBS infection. But thankfully the cdiff is gone. Even after taking Dificid my poop wasn’t solid for a month. I still suffer from loose stools, 6 months out, and when that happens I immediately switch to a low fodmap diet for a while to stop the flare. It is so scary to go through i am glad you found this support group. Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
Thank you! Looks like I’m gonna be having rice! I’m really just wanting this to be over.
Over Xmas holiday, I went to the ER because of this excruciating stabbing pain on left side of bottom of stomach. They did a ct scan which showed, infection/inflamation of colon and intestines. They said it was colitis and put me on Docin antibiotics IV, still with watery bowel movements. I had cdiff before over 20 years ago. And told them to do another stool sample, they did not sent me home. Winded up in er in another hospital as MD sent me to Quest labs. And I was positive for an Acute case of CDIFF by now over 2 weeks had passed so the CDIFF was severe. I just finished my 10th day of vancomysin as difidic made the pain even worse. Now it seems the pain was getting better on antibiotic but still gnawing me. This is my first day off antibiotics and the pain on left side by colon is starting to REV up. Has anyone had this happen to me. I just had a colonoscopy in September and it just showed some gastritis. I had 15 bowel movements it was down to 2 and yesterday last day of antibiotics it went up to 5. I took 2 Immodium. Does this happen with CDIFF should I get another CT. The hospital ran it again and it showed. Colitis, inflammation cleared up. Thank You. I am 67 years of age, with a lot o comorbidities. Narcolepsy, Arthritis. etc..
I was diagnosed the beginning of last year with C-diff after taking months of antibiotics for a UTI. It did clear up for me after one dosing. But if yours is a bad as you say I would do another stool sample. I understand that it could take much long to clear up then people think. I also have IBS-D and osteoarthritis and Primary Immunodeficiency which means my immune system doesn't fight virus or bacteria. By the way I'm 82
