I promised you all I would let you know when I got approved for Medical Marijuana. Judi and I did it. We then went down to Edgewater FL. and got two 500 mg bottles. $70 each. So we were suppose to start with 5 drops (each drop is a mg.) three times a day and slowly work up to 10 drops 3 times a day. Do the math. 16 days for $70. We are both at 5 drops 3 times a day and no relief. I sure hope it starts to ease our pain. Will Keep you posted.

@hazel I totally agree with you, Hazel. We are consumers who are choosing to spend our money at the doctor of our choice. I would fire the doctor! In actuality, he is an independent contractor who has agreed to do work for you. If you do not like the job he is doing, find someone else. As patients, we need to be assertive (not yelling or being harsh). We have a right to question our treatment and to go else where if we don't like the doctor. He or she will get the hint when their practice starts loosing patients. I find most doctors to be knowledgeable and kind. However, I have found a few that just aren't nice and even some that aren't that knowledgeable; and, I have left and gone elsewhere.

Yeppers...definitely need to be your own advocate, learn as much as you can about your health concern and use the knowledge to ask questions of your doctor like you said respectfully. That should help him help you. Most doctors I've had through Mayo have been pretty good at helping when I asked questions. Only negative one I've had was at the Long Beach, Ca. VA Hospital after I got out of the Navy and had to go there for a follow up for unfinished dental work that was backlogged when I was discharged. He was ...well, don't have anything nice to say about him so I'll leave it at that.

@hazelblumberg Hazel, are we twin sisters separated at birth? I, too, am married to an attorney and am an attorney. (Though basically retired due to my multiple health issues. I only work half days and that is when I can!). Our childhoods are similar also, and you like so many of the same things I do. Who would have thought I'd find a kindred spirit on Mayo Connect?

Yes, indeed. We are consumers, and doctors are independent contractors. I refuse to go to one who treats me badly. It's happened in the past, and I have exited. And written him or her a note to let him or her know exactly why I'm leaving. I wonder if I can attach the letter I just sent to my dentist. Let me see if I can. But first I must remove incriminating evidence, such as names. OK, here goes.

In the whole long list of physicians who are "approved" in Tallahassee, I found a grand total of five. This is our state capital. Granted, it's not a huge city, but still.

You can bet that our legislators get all the drugs they want when they come to town. It was hilarious: when we first moved here, and print newspapers were more important, before the legislative session started, the ads for "escorts" and "masseuses" (as opposed to licensed massage therapists, who are completely legit) and "nude dancers" would SKYROCKET.

Any number of legislators would get picked up for driving under the influence of something or other. And then they'd get a little light slap on the wrist. (Football players also driving under the influence were usually just let go without even a wrist slap. Football Is God in Tallahassee. It is why Florida State University exists. Apparently.) Your average Joe or Jane got much worse than that.

I went to a meeting of the Tallahassee Bar Association a number of years back. To say that over 90 percent of the attendees got completely plastered before they drove home is to put it mildly. One attorney I knew had totaled her car twice after attending Tallahassee Bar Association get-togethers. I feel very cynical. Can you tell?

Hazel @hazelblumberg, I know that here in Oregon, the state makes plenty of money from taxes on the sale of MM.

In regards to MM, I say do what you can to get relief from the pain. If you can get it from a friend, then do it. It beats taking opiods! Just my humble opinion. Some laws are just plain nonsensical. Such as being able to get highly addictive and dangerous opiods but not being able to get MM.

Hazel @hazelblumberg, your letter doesn't show up that I can see. I'd be interested in reading it.

I'm an only child, but I always wished for a sibling--so that my mother's attention wouldn't be so totally and utterly focused on me! Maybe she secretly DID give birth to twins, though. You never know. There are tons of secrets in my family.

@oldkarl First of all, let me say I am sorry to understand you may only have a few months left. I am keeping you in my prayers. I say do whatever you need to do to be comfortable and feel good! I am also so very sorry you had such a bad experience with MM. Most people I have talked with or had contact with have had good relief from their pain. Maybe yours had THC in it? I understand that there is some that has very little or no THC. That is the kind I am hoping to some day try. I have never done any illegal drugs in my entire life, not even smoking marijuana. But my pain has gotten to the point that I am most willing to try MM. I am a pretty stoic person, but sometimes the pain does get to me. I refuse to take those "legal" addictive pain pills. And I can't take aspirin or Advil - have had ulcers.
