Chronic inguinal pain

Posted by Keri @keri, Oct 17, 2011

I am 38 years old & have suffered an injury to my ilioinguinal/hypogastric nerves after a gynological surgery. My nerve pain is in my right groin & right pubic area, occasional travels down my inner thigh. I am on Gabitril (antineuroleptic), methadone, tramadol & Zoloft for pain control. I had a peripheral nerve stimulator implanted in my abdomen, but it needed to be removed a yr later due to a chronic infection @ my incision site. It relieved about 30% of my pain but could have helped more if it didn't get the infection. My life has completley changed. The pain has limited me on doing things I used to do.
I have an appt. next month in Rochester, Mayo w/ Dr Mathew Pingree, @ the pain clinic.
Has anyone suffered this type of pain? Has anyone had pulse RF or RF ablation done? I'm scared to have an ablation or a chemical ablation due to the risk of developing an neuritis that could make my pain worse.

Okay, thanks Keri, I had an MRN done 2 weeks back and it came back I had an ilioinguinal nerve entrapment on my right groin after the C-section in 2013, how has your treatment and pain, I am new in this even though I have been trying to know my diagnosis for 4 years..I have moved round doctors!

By the way did you ever see a neurosurgeon or is it only the plastic surgeon and what exam did you do that show your diagnosis, also did you experience weakness in your limbs like me

Ive forgotten about this site for awhile. Nobody in minnesoda or texas could help me. (2012-2016) Im back in alaska now and they finally figured out i have adhesion growing all over abdomen. They believe my main right nerve in groin is being strangled? I guess or entrapped. I guess the last couple years cryoablation has been helping in pelvic area wheras in the years before drs tended to stay away from that area. ...might be a light at end of tunnel finally. I meet new doc next week and he will try to establish what nerves are involved and if im good candidate for cryoablation . From what ive read on it , the pain is worse then steroid shots, but people that its worked on said it was worth less pain. Depending on the person and how fast the nerves grow back, might have to have it redone every 6 months. Some can go longer. I hope it works ive had this pain since 1995 and around the clock pain since 2012..____2 c sections, 1 of them with infection 1990__pain started 1995----- 3 nerves cut in groin in 2010---tubes n ovaries taken out and dr. Verfies adhesions everywhere 2012

Wao, so sorry @prissysharon, you have been through a lot like me, so sorry to hear this, did the nerve block help your pain and what test did you do that show your entrapped nerve.

Nerve block helped partially for a day. I think just the numbing stuff worked. When doc cut 3 nerves she saw one on femoral i believe . Ill find out more next week ,been so long i dont remember. I do remember her saying its one she couldnt cut because i would be without the use of my leg.

The problem I have is that I am not in too much pain because I used ice and b12 shot to controlled nerve inflammation...The nerve just kept flaring up, and lots of swelling inside my body, my pain is unbearable when I am ovulating or cramping for menstruation...I have to get DEPO shot last week to stop my period drama, I want to remove my uterus, ovary and tube to stop my period but really afraid after I realise a lot of people also join this group following complication from hysterectomy...Really confused

Yes ive been told by at least 6 differnt types of drs not to get uterus removed because it just makes more area for adhesions or scar tissue to grow.. when i was reading about the cryoablation , it mentioned they use it for uterus lining to stop heavy bleeding also.

Thank @prissysharon for this info, I will never remove my uterus! I can't stand additional complication.
