Worried about height related to sleep

Posted by nbv1515 @nbv1515, Apr 23, 2019

I usually get 7-8 hours of sleep a night and I’m 15 and still waiting for myself to grow again. Will i stunt my growth by getting 7-8 hours of sleep? I usually wake up really tired. I know I should be getting more sleep but it’s very hard for me because I have trouble falling asleep during the school week.

Hi @nbv1515 that is a good question. Here is a link discussing if height is related to lack of sleep: https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/sleep-growth.html

Here is a link about how much sleep you need at that age. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/articles/teens-and-sleep

Have you discussed this with your doctor? Why do you think you are struggling to fall asleep during the school week? Are you stressed or anxious about school?

I assume that by being a late bloomer you mean that you entered puberty later than average.
There’s a good chance then that you will still grow some. It’s hard to say how much but possibly a couple of inches.
It happened to my son, also a late bloomer. He is 6’4” - I am 5’10” and his father 6’.
Just make sure to get enough sleep and eat healthy.
